I have a friend that replace the 14.1 turbo with a 12.7 old style turbo and bypass the EGR, his century runs cooler and pulls like a train .. this may me the problem solver for egr issue for 14.1 liters. have anyone else tried this ..going to change mines on my freightshaker..

12.7 old style turbo? Was that a waste gate version or non waste gate version? Topic is interesting though, and sounds like a viable solution.

NO EMISSIONS DELETION/MODIFICATION THREADS! ;) The 12.7 conversion sounds interesting though, if it possible separately.

    Op:"and bypassing the EGR"
38SHORT:"Also, what needs to be done bypassing the EGR"

I agree that bypassing the EGR can be a viable solution, but it is modification of emissions equipment, and as such, not allowed to be discussed on this forum. Do what you will, but leave mention of emissions modifications out of your posts.

Just trying to keep the viable portion of the thread from being deleted due to forbidden content.

He's not deleting anything as far as I can tell. This is simply a problem/solution thread. If you're having egr issues and need a viable solution then this should be valid as long as it's legal to do so. A non functioning egr is just that - non functioning. But, my truck doesn't have it so i'm no expert on the matter lol

I don't think it is about EGR

it is about reducing cost of ownership

I was searching the same issue.

Mercedes Actros OM501 have nearly same physical shape ,made by WB,

    but much cheaper (200-300$)

now i am more determined to give it a try on the 14l &mbe4000

Don't get me wrong, I'm interested in improving operating efficiency, some things just can't be discussed on this forum. Let us know how your conversion works, and if everything fits and functions as intended.

Maybe someone should start a discussion on modifications to these motors for racing purposes only. As truckers I think we all love and appreciate big rig racing.

What all needs to be done when swapping turbos from a 14l to 12.7 l or will it work? Plug and play or have to do any modifications?
