Might be hard to tell from a photo but wanted to check and see if this is normal heat checking that would pass Dot Inspection or if they needed replaced? Appreciate any info
Per FMSCA title 49, subtitle B, chapter 3, subchapter B, part 396, appendix A, 1.C.1 Minimum Periodic Inspection Standards c. Brake Drums or Rotors. (1) With any external crack or cracks that open upon brake application (do not confuse short hairline heat check cracks with flexural cracks). (2) Any portion of the drum or rotor missing or in danger of falling away. based on the pictures they appear to be fine, as long as they are not out of round or worn to thin I would continue to run them.
Find a drum micrometer and check for out of round and bell shape. I personally always replaced the drums and seals and complete wheel ends when doing brakes. The cheap Chinese drums are not worth chancing. Seen drums split and go thru windshields. webb makes some good USA drums, but hang on to your wallet. But that is normal heat checking in pics
Just my opinion…unless that’s on something like a dump truck where you’re always replacing brakes and drums tend to get overheated I would put new ones on. I also can’t tell how deep the cracks are in the picture. As far as dot I doubt you will have a problem…..but you never know….sometimes they don’t either until right then lol
