I purchased this truck brand new “2019 freightliner”, and it has been nothing short of fantastic. The engine, as well as the one box, are both original. Unfortunately, the engine recently gave out on me, and the freightliner dealership provided an estimate of 30-35k for a new engine and turbo fuel pump ext. Moreover, I have concerns about the original one box and anticipate needing to replace it sooner rather than later. The only major repair I have done was replacing the injectors at 900k miles, which cost me approximately 7k. Now, I am at a crossroads: Should I stick with this truck or opt for a new one? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you."

Your truck as it sits now is basically worth nothing. With a brand new engine you might be able to sell it for the cost of dropping in a new engine.
My 2 cents is that unless you buy brand new again, you're buying someone else's headache. At least you're aware of what you're working with right now. Only you know if the truck is worth putting a $35,000 engine and $10,000+ emission system in it.
What exactly failed on the engine?trucker2940 Thanks this. -
Do you have an APU? I'm impressed that your emissions system is still original. I've always heard the 1 BOX lasts about 700K and then needs to be replaced. You have given me some real hope here.

yes I have an Apu and clean the filters every 500k milesLOTSO Thanks this.

Agreed. Right now you have nothing that anyone wants to buy. I'd invest in the engine and either try to sell it after that, or run it for a couple more years.
But as of right now, you have nothing.trucker2940 Thanks this. -
I'm not extremely knowledgeable, but is the actual engine shot, would it be worth doing an out of frame rebuild instead? It'll be like brand new, yes?

I hear a lot of negative things about dd15 rebuilds and for an extra 7-10k I rather save the 2 weeks and get the full warranty and new turbo oil pump wiring harness ext.. that’s my thought about it anywaychris_karr Thanks this.

What actually failed?

Yes that’s what I’m leaning towards if it can get me a couple of years without major headaches I think i would be better off than buying a new truck. it would of been worth the 30-35k easy Better off than a new truckOpus Thanks this.

Buy the same thing and use old truck as a parts warehouse…(if you have a spot to let it set)….for future cannibalism
