Injector died (hold down bolt?) on my 2004 C15 MBN (single turbo). Had it towed to International dealer in Effingham,IL, where they are telling me that my cam is flaking, and scratched to the point they recommend replacement. Plans are to R & R the injector, get the load off my back, then head home to Lousy-ana where local mechanic would R & R the cam. Factory settings are 475 horse, but ECM was flashed to 550 w/ 5232 codes, everything else stock. Wondering what cam should I have installed? Would like a little more power (truck doesn't really feel like 550 HP), using the stock turbo, injectors, etc.
Did a search, everything seems to be aimed at high HP, the 800 hp marine cam, and don't know if that would work with stock turbo, injectors. Would like to get around 600hp, if possible, if not, BIL has a stock 2001 550, 6nz, maybe use his serial # to get same cam he has?
Any advice, with part #s would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

I'd put the 130-9710 cam in.That works very well with the stock turbo and injectors.

I just overhauled a 6NZ on the weekend and installed the 800hp camshaft. The engine has new stock injectors and turbo. I will have some mileage and power feedback on the weekend. The ecm is set at 550hp.

Do you have a engine brake? and if so which one jake or pac ? the reason I ask is that when I changed my cam too the cam out of the 6nz I had to change the settings of the lash on the jake heads from .033 to .025 which made for a really weak brake I then reset them # .030 and next thing you know I'm busting exhaust rocker arms so I put new set of updated exhaust rockers on and set to .028 and that seems to have stopped the rocker arm failures but the jake is not as strong as it used to be when it was set # .033 when it had the mbn cam in it. Cat, different mech's told me that my rockers where probably just due to be changed for they where still originals but I find it quite a coincident that they started breaking after I changed the cam. Other than that I don't know what difference there is between the two cams (mbn-6nz) but when I changed the cam and the injectors to 6nz ones it sure made a big difference in performance and fuel economy. Maybe DDS or one of the other guy's could tell us what difference's there is between the mbn and 6nz injectors and cam's?

    Thanks for the comebacks!
Caterpillar wrench, any idea what HP/torque I would have using the cam you recommend?
DDS, are the boat cams priced about the same as truck cams? Anything special required to install one? (referring to the followers, etc.)
Sleepless Nights, In all honesty, I do not know which engine brake I have, it does a great job though, would hate to lose it, but to choose between strong engine brake, and the power/ fuel economy thing,.... bye strong brakes
Good friend of my BIL supposedly has a good cam # for a setup such as mine, but haven't spoken to him. he did mention something to BIL about changing some parts, but BIL couldn't remember what parts he was referring to. Might have been those updated exhaust rockers

Another cam question: Is #187-5281 the same cam as 0R-8452? Supposed to be a 550 H.P. cam for the 550 3406E. Thanks

Did a search trying to find the part# for the 800 HP marine cam that would work in my '04 MBN; no luck, so much info out there.
If anybody could post it, I would appreciate it. Would also appreciate any input from anyone who has installed this cam in an engine while retaining the stock turbo/injectors.

Trying to find the HP category for the 130-9710 cam that Caterpillar Wrench recommended, and if I need to change to an updated set of exhaust rocker arms, (that sleepless nights mentioned earlier) on either cam.
Rockhauler, did you have this cam installed in your truck? Any input?

As usual, thanks in advance for any help.
