i would not use flex pipe. it can break to easy. dont know what kind of truck you have or anything but if you take it a part look down the muffler. donalson you can take a pipe and bend four tabs out on the inside and open it up with out making it to loud. thats what i do on the classics and flds i buy. yes you are by law suppose to havee mufflers even straight pipes are suppose to thats why they now make a muffler insert for straight pipes....
Replacing mufflers with flex pipe. Yes or no ?

I wouldn't use flex pipe either. As carrkool said, it can break down easy. Have had trucks with it on them in the past and as they flex and wear there are a trillion places to get exhaust leaks. Wont be too long and you will be getting exhaust in your cab and such.

When I did my exhaust this summer I got 6" grand rocks for about 350 a piece iirc. I had to get all new cab brackets I had the old Peterbilt horseshoe style ones and the brackets clamps bushings and seal clamps cost more than the two stacks!

Stem-co use to have a spec sheet measure the exhaust restriction, a 90 degree elbow had the same restriction as 20 ft of straight pipe, 18 inches of flex the same restriction, a 5 ft piece of flex would not only break apart quickly it would be a huge restriction, worse than any muffler.
kw9's rock Thanks this.
