A few days ago, my fiance bumped a pole making a right turn. No damage to the pole, but it bent his rim. He called his company and they told him to call the police. When he did, they told him that an officer probably wouldn't come out, and if they didn't, he could go file a report with the DPS. Nobody ever came. Has anybody had an experience like this? Should he go fill out a report? If so, will that go on his MVR?

My thinking is, if they didn't think it was important enough to come out and file a report, he shouldn't report himself. But, I'm probably wrong on that.

I wouldn't do anything. He called the police like his company said to do, so don't push the issue. Don't mention it again to anyone in the company. If a question ever does come up about DPS; he should say, "That's the first I've heard of it?"

Forget it! No damage to the pole. Don't you ever think that all these "million milers" reported every little thing.

You got that right; "million miler" means I didn't get caught. Million milers know how to use duct tape and flat spray paint.

I'd be worried about that rim, though.

If only he could've used duct tape for that rim, nobody would've ever known!

I've thought this about them overall, but they told him it was just in case someone saw him and called in. He needs to get experience before moving on to greener pastures, though.

Why? Someone came out and changed it.

If you are going to quit every company because they are not on your side you are probably going to have to start one of your own if you don't want to be unemployed...

Now you know why million milers sometimes carry an old rusty rim on the catwalk & a can of flat white spray paint. You mess up a rim, pay out of pocket to change the rim. If the tire is busted, another vehicle hit debris and knocked it under your trailer and damaged the tire. Nothing will change the fact the tire is damaged, so might as well blame debris instead of ruining your DAC. No difference than the drivers saying "a deer ran in front of me" or "someone hit me in the truckstop parking lot while I was showering." Of course, that's some of the reasons trucking companies are putting cameras in and on trucks, to find out what's really happening.
