If you hit the icc bumper hard enough to knock it loose you are probably dead either way.. Might be a good idea for people to learn to not run into a truck..

Imagine this.. You hit an 80000lbs wall at 35mph.... What do you think the result would be..... or you hit an 80000lbs fence at 35mph.. you get the same result... Either way you will probably be dead...
Common sense should tell you the results will normally be the same. make it stronger you will kill as many people ... Stop putting the fault in the design put it where it belongs.. with the idiot that was texting drinking changing the radio, or just flat out not paying attention.

Exactly right WOT......instead of worrying whether the ICC bumper is "enough"...they should be worried about the skills necessary too not have to ever come in contact with the rear of a trailer to know one way or the other.....

Duh, big red truck... ICC bars are not intended to stop say an F350, doing 65 mph, that is not on the brakes trying to avoid the collision. They are there to keep the car that is trying to stop from going all the way under in an attempt to keep the passenger compartment intact, hopefully so those in the front seats heads stay attached their necks.

    Great point.

Next they will want one of those impact absorbing crash barriers on the back.

Distance and speed sensing automatic deployment air bags mandated on all trailers...:biggrin_2556: Is it just me or is the nanny state trying to remove "natural selection" from the world at large.

How about just not hit the truck? It's not like the truck is hidden, its almost 14 feet tall and 10 feet wide and at least 7-10 lights on the back. How hard is that?

Leftlane101, Cetane+ and JPenn Thank this.

I notice on our new Utility reefers, the ICC bumper has been redesigned a bit to add more impact holding strength. But the smaller cars are going to wedge right under, regardless.
