I also noticed how the news report tries to put the blame on the truck for going too slow.

REALLY????? IS THE WORLD THIS SCREWED UP??? The guy hit the truck in the back, was problem either not paying attention or speeding maybe both by the picture, but its the ICC bumpers fault!
I can see the ambulance chasing lawyers burning up a set of shoes going after this one. The trucker was at fault for moving to slow the company should have bought better trailers, the manufacturer should have hired better engineers, ect ect

Extremely hard, plus, we're in their way, it's our fault if they run into us.

Wait to see what happens when we get speedlimiters....

Really? Paying attention to where you're going and what's in front of you is a matter of "luck?" :biggrin_25512: Here:

    Fixed that for 'em.

Has anyone else ever seen an accident where a car rear-ends a stepdeck ,rgn/lowboy, kentucky dropdeck trailer? The car or truck that hits it fairs the same as the guy that rear-ends the van trailer and slides underneath. If the ICC bumper didn't break the guy would have died from blunt force trauma from the impact. Raising speed limits to 70+ while the majority of trucks on the road can barely do over 62 seems to really be helping the situation.

While I go by the old adage "the guy in the back is the one who's pays" I have notice that on some trailer designs the ICC is pretty useless.

4" box section steel is only as strong as it's weakest weld when it's mounted at 90 degrees.

They really should have an angle up from the ICC to the frame. (yeah the one pictured has them but it's 45 degree angle iron plates, not exactly good engineering. Still better than some.) some old coil springs mounted to an "outer" bar wouldn't be that difficult to "redneck engineer" either.

On the subject of bumpers: I grew up in the 70's & 80's, what we have on modern cars aren't "bumpers", a light tap in the parking lot shouldn't result in a $4500 trip to the body shop!
