Reputable carriers that run a lot of New England freight?

Might find myself wanting to get to Maine pretty regularly. Every couple of weeks or so. Swift doesn't seem to have a lot of freight going that way and I'd like to be able to get in the area (ME, NH, CT, MA, VT) without having to take hometime to do it. I'm gonna finish out a full year with Swift to make myself more marketable to other carriers. Just doin' a little fishin' right now.

Who steadily hauls into and out of New England? Thanks in advance...:biggrin_25514:

You could check out New Century, I hear they run a lot up that way and I also heard they pay pretty good. That's about all I know about them.

I checked out New Century on-line. They're a relatively new company (2000) that has had a good measure of success. They, according to the website info, require 2 years experience. That wouldn't stop me from looking into them further because I might have 2 years of experience before I make a move. I did like what I read about them. Thanks for the tip!

New Century is relatively "new" but it was started and i believe still owned by the guy that once owned Jevic and sold that to Yellow.....

so "new" in how many years they have been around...but "old" in who owns it and knows trucking.

but be forewarned..the guy that owned Jevic is an entrepreneurial minded person..he may just sell this one in a few years as well.......and if he sells it to Yellow, expect Yellow to clean them out too and shut them down....

here is what i found, i knew i was right about New Century

I'll be watching them. I'm not going to be interested in a carrier that has an owner that's looking too closely at the bottom line with an eye toward selling out. It's too easy to make the bottom line look good by deferring maintence and improvements.

What sector of the biz interests you for your future endeavors?

    Van? Reefer? Flat? Dump?

I run around NH, and frequently go near the ME border, I can keep an eye out for who runs "Round these heah paahts."

(If you're going to be a Mainer, you have to modify your southern accent)

Jeez...never thought I'd live to hear a trucker say he WANTED to run the N/E.
I tell you what, buddy...you want to run up that way, you can write your own ticket in this biz.
You'll have outfits fighting amongst themselves to get you on their payrolls.

it would be much better if you were to go online some more and check the hiring areas more closely.....some companies may only go as far as Mass.

    try the following:

    JB Hunt

    Schneider

    West Side

    McCains

    Cowan Systems

    Stevens Transport

    GlennMoore

now if you wanted to be a bed-bugger.....the whole country is your domain......

If you want to run northeast, i would be looking at this company first above all others because they are union:

    http://www.atkinsonfreight.com/

The ONLY reasons why i haven't applied with them is because i don't particularly fancy their tractors plus i want long coast-to-coast runs with ALOT of western states thrown in.

It's not that i don't like NE---i do, it's just that i'm on western kick right now.
