Are you allowed to request a trainer being a n00b? I'm going to be starting up with Prime Inc. here in the next couple of weeks, and will have my CDL permit when I walk in the door.
What I've learned is that your success in this business is really based on 2 main factors; your DM, and your trainer. Am I able to request to be trained by someone? If so, can one of you Prime guys (the ones that actually like working there) give me an idea of someone who can help me learn this business the right way?
I promise I'll bust my ### every day in every way for someone who shows me the right way to do the job. TIA.

I don't know if that was sarcastic or not, it doesn't always read well on the internet, but I'll thank you for it anyways. I don't know much about trucking, but what I do know about life, is that it is what you make of it. Attitude goes a long ways in this world, and I will keep my head up and be prepared to make nothing my first year. I'm going company driver, and will not lease. My wife will join me as soon as I get my A seat and I'll train her myself and we'll run, run, run. We have no kids, and don't plan on it. I know it ain't easy, and I'm not looking for a free ride. We'll work to get what we can out of it, and if it doesn't work out at Prime, it will work out somewhere else. Thanks again for the well wishes. -
BTW, if that was sarcasm, and you have something to say about it, I'll listen with an open mind and appreciative spirit for the input. I'm not proud. I just want to learn what I can, and anyone who's done this for 38 years has a helluva lot of information that I'd be grateful for. I know nothing. But I'm trying to figure it all out and make the right decisions.

if after a certain amount of time goes by, and you do not like your trainer, you CAN ASK (request) for another trainer. this DOES happen.
But here too, there are no guarantee's you will get a different trainer right away. if one is NOT available, you are either going home, or sleeping in the bunk-room, or motel till one becomes available, so be forewarned on that too.
just try your best each and every day, take frequent showers, use deodorant, do not smoke, do your job, and your trainer might cut you loose early with high marks......on paper.......not your body......!!!!

It's hard to pick a trainer. You kind of get who breezes in at the time you finish orientation. Sometimes while you are in orientation if you meet a trainer and it is close to your time to go and you guys seem to get along ok then you request them to train you. Doesn't always work out but worth a shot. If you do get a trainer that you just don't get along with or you think that he isn't training you properly then call up your company and tell them that it just isn't working out. They will get you another trainer. It happens quite often so don't think you are the only one. I wouldn't sweat it, chances are you will have a blast with your trainer and time will fly by. Also be prepared to run hard. This is the trucking season! Save all your money because freight comes to a halt in January. Good luck man!

Try to stick with the original trainer if possible. When you trade trainers, there will be a break in your training. Getting off the truck, lugging your stuff into a motel at 3am, getting back onto a new truck maybe the same day or 3-4 days later. Just remember, you aren't marrying the trainer, you're only tagging along for a short period. And as a newbie, you aren't in the position to try to be the "Boss", right?

Some trainers do suck, but some trainees suck also. Seems all newbies think they're just perfect angels and the big bad trainer is just sooooo mean to them. They get their feelings hurt the first 10 minutes they're on the truck. Deal with it People. It's a rough and tumble business, not for whimps.
