You booked a load and delivered 5 hours late, even if Westrock had you out in a hour, you still would have been late. You promised what you couldn't reasonably deliver and got screwed.
In the future, under promise and over deliver. At the one hour mark on the first stop inform the broker that the excessive load time has jeopardized on time delivery and you WILL be late no matter what. Make the broker do their job and get things rescheduled while you're still getting loaded. It will make the broker light a fire under the first stop and probably the second as well (assuming it's still a westrock facility). Either way the reschedule should have been arranged before you arrived at the consignee. You knew well in advance what your eta was and failed to communicate it EFFECTIVELY to the broker and have detention fees in the rate confirmation.
This is what I know as a company shmuck who has never had to actually deal with brokers. I encourage you to spend a little more time on TTR, reading other driver's experiences and learning vicariously through them.88 Alpha, Savor the Flavor, Concorde and 1 other person Thank this.
