Research Project Question about Safety Driving Program

    Hello!

    First off, let me clarify that I am not a driver and that I am doing a research for a project I am working on. Secondly, let me say that truck drivers keep this country afloat and they are underappreciated heroes of the US workforce. Ya'll put in long hours so that we can get what we need.

    I need information on what kind of "safety driving programs" or continuing education your employer offers you to stay safe on the road. Does your employer offer it? Mandate it? If so, what kind of program is in place? Online videos? Tests? Quizzes? Do you get any reward for passing it? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

    Our company requires us to log into a website and watch safety videos [related to trucking] once per quarter. We also receive several simple paper handouts with a short test at the end that we are to complete (about 2 of these every quarter it seems)

    I think ongoing safety training is a FMCSA requirement for all carriers In addition, carriers who deal in hazmat or other specialized operations are required to have ongoing training related to that specialty (probably mandated by the insurer as well as OSHA and other governmental agencies )

    Well Meredith, if companies only "offered" it, the suits would be the only one in attendance. No driver wants to put up with whatever silly new thing they come up with and lump under 'SAFETY' unless it is to move on from their current position. The same old boring 20 minute windbag videos is all most drivers get. And that's a lot more than they want.
