This is a reason to be careful with google. There are web sites that will try to force you to accept downloads and open your system up to be taken over. The easiest way to stop a website from forcing a download, is to ctl+alt+del on your keyboard (all at the same time), that opens your task manager. Then applications tab, highlight that browser under task, hit end task button on the bottom. You might get a pop up, hit end task and don't send. The timing of it has to be quick and smooth. I have come across sites that try to tell my computer has a virus and tries to download there bug/scripts/code. The fastest and easiest thing to do, is what I just explained.

BTW, Does anyone remember when clt+alt+del use to reboot your machine?

It still does if you hit it twice in a row. At least on my computer!

    Hitting it twice....
On mine, it brings up a list of options :biggrin_25519:

But then again. Nothing on mine is as it appears or should be, by design.

Mine won't accept the command "Create a restore point" I have to manually restore/save a .bak file. Or do a total system recovery/reformat.

I wish MS would quit thinking they are building a better/safer OS by locking down once accepted features/services. And the ability to manipulate them.

Because "system restore" has it's own security related design flaw.

I'm not quite that tech savvy. :biggrin_25512:

The HP I have now was bought for two reasons . . . the price and the fact that it has a slot for the XD memory cards my camera uses!

That's good enough reason. :biggrin_25519: My neice was soooo excited to see the memory card I got her for Christmas, came with a USB adapter for the PC. Her's doesn't have a card reader.

Most of the alterations I've made on mine. Are now automated, by programs and scripts. I don't dig into the system as much as I used too. But I use the tools, because I know what they do. And I trust the designer/site promoting them.

My son is a huge fan of System Mechanic. And I install it on most the family PC's. But I wouldn't have it on mine...at any price.
