They cannot.
The battery rack will be where the old frame would sit. Towards the bottom of the vehicle.
Yes you can design a vehicle capable of swapping out batteries the same as forklifts do, but do you recall the battery room and the gigantic 440's and even a few 600's frying the battery row charging them?
Reserve your TESLA ELECTRIC 500 mile range Semi today $150-$200k

I’d love one. As the info continues to come out I’ll continue to dream about the possibilities. Once it’s vetted and ready I’ll be interested.
Joe Rogan is a well known muscle and sports car fanatic. He bought one of the Tesla coupes and said it’s a completely different experience and like driving the future. He says regular cars are so archaic. I’d like to see what the semi is like at least.RussianBearTruckeR, 88228822 and daf105paccar Thank this. -
I would drive one. It would be so easy install changing in any truck stop. Electricity is cheaper the diesel. Our diesel trucks never brakes down today right? The engine block and transmission all the other stuff is so lite. Having just batteries would probably be the same weight maybe less. They are like 1,000HP
Remember the warranty Tesla was claiming on the truck, 1 million miles that seems hard to believe but if they can probably to a lot better the your typical truck because their would be so few moving parts. -
As much as I LOVE the idea...I feel I won't see a useful one (for me) in my life time.

I dunno. Electric motors whirring just don't sound as masculine as a straight pipe Big Cam or 3406.

They're pretty neat but I can't get over the silent part. A big reason every car I buy has a V8 is because I love the sound when I put my foot into it.
Also, like x1Heavy mentioned, lithium batteries are no joke.
The Tesla Model S battery pack consists of 7,104 18650 lithium cells.
This is what it looks like when an 18650 goes into thermal runaway (fast forward to 3:25).

Please notice the aerodynamics very sleek BUT what about waste heat? Have you ever been close to a 200 hp electric motor it gets pretty toasty.
D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
The concept is intriguing. Though something few have touched on is the extreme power curve any battery even lithium experiences as the temperature goes down.

Sounds like people think diesel trucks never burn or get hot. Pulling a hill we have a lots of heat waste and during a Regen. Tesla claim 500 miles is possible ,then with a 30 minute break you can recharge for another 400 miles. That would be 900 miles a day. Say they are off by 300 miles. Plus cold weather mean less range. You could still do 500-600 miles a day maybe with only 1 recharge durning a break
They claim the truck can pull 80k up a 5% hill at 60MPHD.Tibbitt Thanks this.
