I see this all the time at the Petro in Sparks,nv (reno) Located right next door is a swift terminal, with plenty of open parking, because all the swift trucks are parked at the petro.

I have never seen Jessup completely full. Ever. Always plenty of spots at the far end of the lot.

A few times I've pulled in to a full TA at the end of my day to fuel, and observed several trucks circling the lot looking for spots. While I'm fueling, I simply call and pay for one of the reserved spots. A few hours later after my shower and dinner, those trucks are usually still circling, looking for a spot. They probably burned more in fuel than the cost of that reserved spot that they won't pay for.

I dunno about swift etc, but with my company you try your damndest to stay out of a terminal because if you go in the truck MUST go into the shop for a checkout and you may not get it back for hours, if not days/weeks (yes it happens), if they find something they can get some labor hours out of. And they don't communicate at all, you just have to keep checking the lot to see if they threw it back outside. Yeah, we do a lot to stay out of a terminal if it can be helped at all.

They save money by not having their own drivers running into their own trucks, it's cheaper to hit someone else's truck.

The TA and Petro on I-81 in greencastle and carlisle I use the spots. They fill up by 8pm at the latest. Even the spots in the back 40. So I just pay the money. Its a deduction anyway. Just have to deal with fed ex doubles that park in front of the empty pay spaces and go in to have dinner. Had it happen three times in greencastle.
