This is true. One problem is truckstops have no control over demand for parking.

    They do however control supply.

With drivers spending less money in the stores increasing the number of spaces isn't necessarily in the truck stops best interest. I am waiting for a chain to repaint its lot and start advertizing extra wide spaces to decrease supply. Then as the pay spaces start doing better increase the number of them.

Cities, Counties and States aren't helping the matter with closing rest areas and not approving or fighting the zoning/size of new truck stops.

It wouldn't be as much of an issue if the trucking industry was free market and not so regulated. Truck stops have a captive audience that by and large can't take business else where.

Finally used the reserve parking thing. Worth the $12 in my opinion. I usually shutdown by 5pm but wanted to get as close to Florida as I could. Called ahead and reserved a spot here in Georgia. Didn't get in till 10pm, nice having the peace of mind that you don't have to hunt for a spot.

I used it once at the TA in Bloomsbury, NJ on a Saturday a couple of months ago. I was going to Jersey to pick up in the morning but I had to get a trailer tire repaired. It was full and getting late in the evening. I checked into the shop then paid for a spot. I am a company Driver and they do reimburse us for it.

Tried it for the first time in Morris, IL last night.

I was running short on hours and there was an accident on the Illinois river bridge that held me up. It was nice knowing I was going to have a spot to park.

You got a T-bone steak at a TA? You could have gotten the same at the local Petsmart... TA restraunts are terrible... The couple drivers ive seen parked in the reserved spots are the same ones that eat at the buffets and the same ones who need to lose a couple hundred pounds...

Good for you, you aint gotta use the service. I for one enjoy being able to know i have peace of mind about a parking spot. Like today, came into this petro at 930pm, called earlier for a reserved spot. Im glad i did as this place is packed. I get parked and of course someone comes across the CB talking crap about me parking in a reserved spot. I didn't say anything to him, just turned the radio off. Guys are circling the parking lot looking for spots, why not just pay a small $12 for a spot. It's not much money.
