Okay so this is more a what would you do question. I pulled into a rest stop in Florida, if you want specifics it's the one on I 75 northbound just south of Gainesville, and there's two trucks parked here. My guess is when they pulled in there weren't any parking spaces. However, it doesn't change the fact that they are both illegally parked. One is parked just past the truck entrance, The other parked just at the mouth of the hit exit. Both rigs left enough room for someone to get by. So here's my question, would you call and have them moved and if so who would you call?
Personally, I'm okay giving a bit of leeway here and there I'm an understanding person but there is a line that has to be drawn somewhere.
Rest area etiquette and what would you do?

Just mind your business driver. That could be you someday.
OPUS 7, driverdriver, Shaggy and 44 others Thank this. -
I would leave them alone, happens all the time.Just go around them. Unless they are completely blocking entrance / exit , then I would wake them up.Also, Florida has started putting up electronic signs about 1 mile from the rest area, with a notice as to how many truck parking spaces are open at that minute. Kind of a good idea.

You just never know when it's gonna be you, running out of hours and needing a place to park... They were courteous enough make sure other vehicles could get by, so no harm done... If they would have been blocking the entrance or exit then even I polite knock on the door and asking them to move would be a nice gesture.. If they fail to move after asking nicely then I would make a phone call..
Treat you fellow trucker how you would like to be treated !!!Rocks, OldDude50, Moving Forward and 7 others Thank this. -
get a few more years under your belt and you will have been in just about every common situation that requires you making do with what's available to you to get parked for a rest.
Just Where exactly do you suggest they should to move to?ROBERTCADAMS and Ezrider_48501 Thank this. -
Been to PA lately? That happens here all the time. The rest area on I81 at the 80 miles marker usually has trucks lined up for a mile on the entrance and a mile after the exit. All sitting on the shoulder of the road.

My trainer with Schneider was extremely strict when it came to the rules, and so I typically set out several different places within my driving capabilities and destination that I can stop back. I just pick that up from him. So, you always tell me these guys stopped on the side of the road is because they trip planned poorly. Even as a new driver, I know that's not true.
to answer your question though assuming it is for trip planning, with in 20 miles of either direction there are three places they could have stopped. All of which are found in that little truckstop pocketbook.
I do understand what you guys are saying, but I just wanted to know what the right thing was to do. I have seen highway patrol and police forcing some of these guys to move. At that time they were blocking anything just sitting there. -
Get a little more time in and you will laugh when you think back about worrying about this.
Y2K, Moving Forward and teqntexas Thank this. -
You can not change people, places or things. Some drivers prefer rest areas to truck stops. It is their choice. As far as parking on the ramps, that is a little iffy, but sometimes those guys have no choice. When I was young I did some stuff I would not even consider today. As far as calling the police, I would save that for emergency situations. Some of those guys irritate me too, but I try to be like a duck and let that stuff roll off my back.
