Rest area etiquette and what would you do?

Really? This is where you draw the line! Leave them alone, and ##### about the jerks that block fuel islands to take showers, eat in the restaurant, do their 30

 

My hardly want to be a narc. But I'd sure be in a funk if I learned some idiot plowed into them on his way into the rest area. My not be my business or my fault, but I had a chance to do something about it. Make sense?

 

I'm also going to toss this out there... Many of you talk about changing how the public sees us, talk about doing what we are supposed to do, and staying safe and more...

Yet I asked a question. How does it look when we park in non-designated spots to others? How safe is it? How right is it?

I don't want to bicker, fight or even step on toes... But if you want the changes some of you talk about, then for pere's sake don't shoot the guy who wanted to help. It'd be as if the French resistance in WWII shot their reinforcements... Just doesn't make a lot of sense.

Ill heed your advice. But some of us need to look at how we handle things if we really want that change. Myself included.

 

Really? They were in a rest area, not hanging off an exit ramp or similar, "parked illegally", "Who do I call", what about, if you're so concerned, knock on the door...New is no excuse for thinking you can't knock on someone's door, common sense dictates you can, anything else is, using your words, 'ratting out'...JMHO

 

It doesn't look good when drivers do not park properly and at times, clog the way through and into a rest area. Many was a time I had to drive on by myself, because I couldn't get in. I would be tired too, but what can I do? Stay there, call the cops, wait several hours for a non-emergency call to be responded to, or drive away? I choose to drive away, and maybe find another exit ramp. But I do not sleep on EXIT ramps, on ramps would be better. (in my opinion of what I have done for some sleep)

We will not change the way driver's park when they are either too tired or just plain ignorant all because they have a shiny new rig and don't want some klutz to park along side him. Same things happen in a shopping mall parking lot, right? BRAND new car or pick up truck, taking 2 spaces, right? what are we gonna do, call mall security and have the offender towed? HELL NO, WE KEY THE SIDES!

Not much anyone can or really do for truckers not parking properly, so just move on down the road.
Now, in SHARP contrast, say you have pulled in, and went to bed. Woke up the next morning and see a truck blocking the exit, and you cannot get out! What do you do then? I know I HAVE pounded on a door or two. Pissed off that sleeping driver, but the jerk BLOCKS the exit!

THEN YOU WAKE HIM UP. What else to do, wait for his 10? NO, you gotta go right? Now he becomes the jerk, idiot, moron, whatever, due to BLOCKING your exit out of there, and THEN you have a right to wake him.

Other than what I may have covered? Move on down the highway, nothing more for you to do. If an accident takes place LONG after you were driving on by? SO what, you are now x number miles further away from maybe a locked down highway crash investigation, and that much closer to your destination.

Life is full of imperfections.

I have no doubt that your windshield has had a lot of bug strikes and made it hard to see. The fact that you did not stop and immediately remove the june bug in your field of vision makes you a safety hazard on the road.

The general public sees your dirty windshield and thinks, those darn truck drivers are so lazy they can't keep their windows clean.

I think we should all keep our windshields clean and we should tell every truck driver we see to clean their windshields.

Or, I could just clean my own windshield.

 

Thank you! That's it, that all I needed to know. I would be on the phone 24/7 if I called on everyone I saw breaking a rule on the road. The police would have my number blacklisted.

I am part of the new generation of truckers, like it or not. And unlike the government I really am here to help. But sometimes it's difficult to know where that "line" has to be drawn.

Funny you mention MD.I got a parking ticket for parking at the Maryland House. I was inside the rest area, but not in a 'designated space'. Not hurting the flow of traffic in any way, I argued with the cop about it. I asked if he'd rather I drive on I95 while half asleep or stay here. He assures me i can stay where I am, but I'm getting a ticket. I asked him if this was a pay to park deal, he says 'it is now' and hands me a ticket, and goes to the next truck and writes another ticket.

All about the money....
