My question is has anyone takien a road test to add an endorsement onto a current CDL that had no restrictions resulted ina restriction to be added after that test? I hold a class A CDL and took a road test to add a passenger and school bus endorsement. I had no restrictions specifically no E restriction meaning I couldn't drive a manual transmission. Because the bus I tested in was an automatic after receiving my license back with said endorsements it also came with an E restriction. Is this the way it is supposed to work? I contacted Texas DPS and they said the only way I can get it removed is to retake a road test in a manual transmission. I just don't understand how taking a road test to add endorsements to a current CDL with no E restriction can somehow result in them applying one to my license. Is this wrong? Thanks
Not real sure. Problem is passenger is a special test I've never looked into. I know it doesn't behave normally as, for example, in the US it would be almost impossible to get a Class A with P endorsement. After all, there are what, 3 class A busses in the states... As for advice to the op. Make DPS cite the law that requires an E restriction when adding P endorsement. Don't really have anything better.
I asked them if that's the way it works why did they not notify me of that ahead of time, because I would have never done it if I knew that's what would happen. They did not give me a response. DPS that is. It is very frustrating and makes no logical sense.
I think it’s just a case of human stupidity. Dumb desk clerk thinks he or she automatically has to put the restriction on there so they do it without even thinking.
I had an unrestricted Class A CDL & decided to jump ship to drive school bus for a couple of years. After taking the skills and road test for the Passenger and School Bus endorsements in an automatic school bus, I now have a "M" restriction on my CDL, which is no Class A Bus.
