In my opinion, I think you should drive for someone first, especially since you don't know how long you plan on doing it. Then if you decide that you plan on making a second career out of it, then consider buying a truck.

I don’t know that I would want any part of a car hauler with that many miles. Not sure about Boydstun but I know Cottrells rust from the inside out but what would scare me is the hydraulic lines. Pin those decks and keep fittings on hand and extra lines.

I can’t stand being around drunk people unless I’m drunk so I know how that would turn out!

Did I miss the part where car hauling has already been chosen?

Unless you are going to get your own authority, which has its own challenges in the car haul world, that truck is getting very close to not being accepted at many carriers if you wanted to lease on to one. You can find some decent rigs for less than $100,000 if you can turn your own wrenches for minor issues. Hydraulic lines come to mind first. Since you used to drive a carhauler you may know what all goes wrong with them, but when you own one you get a much better view point! I built new 6 years ago and I still spend a lot of time either repairing items or in a shop. Moving parts go bad and we have a lot of moving parts. I still say go for it, but buy the best and newest truck you can afford because an old car hauler could break you.
