I am returning after 20+ years. Starting with same company. just reminded of liability for damage, or short freight and negligent damage to company equipment.
Any advise on supplemental insurance? Companies who do or do not abuse these liability clauses?
I had one close call in 8 years last time I was driving and it makes me worried now that I have assets that could be jeopardized.
.. I am going with a medium sized company that takes pride in their equipment and although I have not heard of any yet, I am sure they have charged more than a few of their drivers. Just don't know the circumstances.
Thanks all for your inputs..

Non existant,,if your company makes you liable for shortages,, damage to the vehicle or what ever ,,your company sucks,,it's all about the risks a company takes to be in business,,of course the driver is responsible but if the driver screws up the company can fire the driver of accept the cost..
If you are a goo driver no problem,,but the company should taske the loss out of their profits,, does not sound like a company a good driver would want to work for,,I am sure that you are a careful driver,,mistakes happen and that is the risk for the company,, -
thanks, not what i was hoping to hear though.
I wonder how many companies have drivers sign things like what I did just to encourage caution?
anyone else see that in their hiring process?
thanks again. -
A lot of companies throw everything on the driver,, I had a good driver that had 2 accidents,,they cost me a couple thousand dollars,,I ate to cost because he was a good hard working driver with a great attitude,,I still made a good profit after the cost of his mistakes,, I fired 3 other drivers that worked forme at the same time because they did not care about being carefull and when they dinged a couple trailer their attitude was crap,, for a carrier they must weigh different factors ,sometimes it's is best to get rid of a driver and sometimes it is better to keep a driver ,but in the end it is the risk of having employees,,that is why it is most important to be careful who you hire,

'Stuff happens'...that is part of the cost of doing business. I don't pay anyone to work for them. If a company can't look at my driving history, and make a decision to take a chance on me to run their equipment---then I don't need to work for them.
If they run your MVR or DAC, and see a history of accidents/incidents, they could either hire you or not, it is their decision. But don't freak'n hand me a piece of paper to sign saying I will pay for something on your equipment. -
You got it White Dog,,amazes me when I look at ads for driver,,, "CLD Class A driver wanted, no more than 2 accidents and 3 tickets last 2 years"
not me,,would not hire any driver that had any tickets last 3 years and any kind of accident in the last 5 years. too many good safe drivers out there ..
