    Hello! My name is Nat. I came down from Alaska to work again in the trucking industry. I gave up my CDL-A because I thought I would never drive again. But then I became a school bus driver in Alaska and the company paid for the CDL-B. I know-I know what a mistake giving up my CDL-A, especially now that I want to drive again in the lower 48. The training companies will not accept my Alaska DL and want me to change my license to another state they accept a CDL from. Sure, I could get an Ohio DL to solve the problem, but I just don't want to be forced to let my Alaskan DL go without trying to exhaust all my options first. My cabin and homestead are in Alaska, and I just want to work in the lower 48. What's crazy is I'm experienced, although rusty, have an Alaska CDL-B with a learners permit and a current physical card. Trucking companies have said NO to the Alaska DL. Who would have ever thought? Crazy. Anyone know why? Would love to hear from you truckers out there regarding this situation. And thanks to you all in advance.

    Lynden Transport runs to Alaska and has terminals there and in the lower 48.
    Not sure if they hire Ohio drivers or not.
    Do hire in Washington, Texas, Arizona for sure.

    I think the law changes in Feb. where drivers have to attend a cdl school that's approved to get a cdl. Not as easy as just borrowing a truck anymore.
    Maybe @Moose1958 can elaborate on that.

    Western Dairy Transport has their own cdl school. The school is free and meals & lodging are provided.
    Also, paid hourly pay while attending the school. School is in Missouri.
    This is a milk tanker company.

    KLLM Transport and FFE Transportation have cdl school in Gary, Indiana.
    Ask a recruiter for details on the school in Gary, Indiana
    KLLM owns FFE Transportation.

    I think I have this right;
    cdl school in Springfield, MO is for refrigerated trucking.
    cdl school in Missoula, MT is for dry van trucking.

    Off the top of my head, I think generally speaking once you allow a CDL to expire you have to start all over again. I want to remember there are some rules in place that give you some time after it expires, but on this, I am not 100% sure. Maybe @brian991219 might know!

    What is the benefit, other than psychological, of insisting you keep your AK DL?
