You did what I did years ago , as in looking in the mirror. It's no fun either when you begin to realize that your biggest opponent stares back at you. Once you realize that , the next step is even harder in trying to remember that you don't sign the owner's checks , and you don't write the policies. Here's one more thing that keeps companies competitive is running your business in a fashion that allows you to handle adversity , meaning changes are a must according to what the economy is doing. Great high paying companies take the biggest hits in trying times , their ability to stay in business often fails and it's a great company now filing chapter 13.
Preston the 151 line , CF , AF , Jevic , and others are good examples of what happens to the great ones that refuse to join the ranks of an avg company during trying times.
There are a bunch of companies without mentioning names mainly cause I can't think of them , that were bought out by other companies and scores of drivers have said in the past about many of them that it used to be a good company until so&so company bought them out.
I've had some complaints about Poly but it's not of a nature that has me itching to jump ship. Plus I live in a spot most companies won't hire in.
If you're a driver in a big city working for baloney trucking , you're either inexperienced , or been with the company long enough to not know the difference between good and bad , as in brainwashed by that beginner company.
I used to live in Chicago , opportunities were plentiful got in with Jevic straight from a union job and made more money OTR with Jevic than as a local hrly union driver. after a yr and a half with Jevic , move to the country as in Garrison KY , look that up on google. No one wants a 27yr exp'd driver with a good MVR because it's too far to deadhead him home from their normal frt lanes.
Those that will want to pay you 35 cpm the way the crow flies , out 3 weeks home for 2 to 3 days. Those companies can stick that offer up their _____ 's , know what I mean ?
Poly expects a lot from ya that 1st year , in using loaners and getting to know their policies , those that use that 1st year to melt the ice with them , and build a working relationship with them that they cuddle up to so to speak usually do okay. The week I was looking for a load home , I spent 4.5 days waiting for , midnight Sunday start my 34hr restart , kind of made it known I wasn't too happy about 4.5 days to get me there. They smoothed things over with me , and I worked local Wed and Thurs. It isn't 700 miles at 50CPM but 20 hrs local pay helps. Which is another thing most OTR companies stray from unless of course they're short local drivers. -

What you all think are great big deals , I don't . By the time I get back to G.P. it'll be 3 yrs and I'm not going any where. I'm happy , They leave me alone let me do my job , and work well for "ME" , That's all that matters to me is what I prioritize.
I can't make it more simple to understand , than that. -
