Here's the ramps on my old 72. Designed originally for oilfield work as we moved a lot of Baker tanks, steam generators, portable mud tanks & pumps. These ramps took a lot of abuse. There is 3/4" x 3/4" square stock welded on each side of the ramps to keep the Baker tanks from sliding off while winching them up to the pin. After a year on this truck (1979) I added the extensions to the end of the ramps so I gould get under the Murray trailer while it was on the ground. These ramps with hendrickson 44K susp, 5x4 with a "deep under" and a winch, there was nothing I couldnt get under.

Is that one of those white T660's with that long frame? I bought a couple of them this last year and we whacked that frame off. Your fab job looks good. I would put a landing for the rgn foot if you were ever to pull a hydraulic though.

Wouldn't the king pin hit a landing any higher than the current cross member?

It will hit if you go level with the frame but I usually just put in a piece of 3x6x3/4 angle to beef up the crossmember and use it as a landing

Man, I always uncouple, pull up about a foot, then raise neck so it doesn't catch on anything. Just always scared to catch something back there. -
I'm slow at typing, you beat me to it. But here was my question:
Here is a picture of my tractor and ramps. This is a hydraulic neck lowboy, so I do not use the ramps. The gap between the fifth wheel plate and the ramps would cause a problem when the rollers went off of the ramps, yes?
So I assume that you must pick the load up with the fifth wheel plate back, but the only way I can figure out to slide the fifth wheel without the weight of the load on it would be to block under the front of the deck, and then dump the air in the suspension (assuming an air ride). Depending on how much weight there is and how much the neck is flexed, I am not sure one could get enough weight off of the fifth wheel to slide it without horsing things a lot.
I'm kind of dense at times, so maybe I'm just missing something.

@Oxbow You are not missing anything. With mechanical necks & ramps like yours, there are a couple options. Like you said, get all hooked up with the 5th wheel back against the ramps. Block the trailer up, drop the air & slide the 5th wheel where you want it. If you dont have air like I did with my old 72, I kept the slider lubed up with motor oil & I could slide it with 46K on the drivers if I HAD to. Problem here was if the slider was worn, (Holland types) some times the jaws would not open or close with a lot of weight. With a narrow neck & rollers, a 2 ramp system worked great. 1st ramp up to the frame, roll on top of the frame to 2nd ramp that slides with the 5th wheel. This works great except with wide goosenecks like I had.Oxbow Thanks this.

Thanks truckdad, that makes sense. I can see where a winch would come in real handy for that.
