Specifically to my double drop and RGN friends. Do you bring tarps out with you, or do you find you do well enough without them? I’ve recently talked to two drivers who both pull a mini deck, one of which always brings tarps, the other whom never tarps. Both say they do well and stay busy. Have any of you tried both scenarios? Thanks for commenting.

I always figured everything that would go on an RGN would be too big to tarp.

You’d be surprised what we have to tarp sometimes. Machinery crates can get pretty big. That’s not open board kind of stuff though. I know months in advance when things are coming and there’s a crew and a man lift there along with all the gear to cover it. It’s not that they’re too big to cover, they’re just too big for one guy to cover with what he has with him every day.

The last ones were 11’5”h x 14’w x 28’l. Electrical equipment for the transmission yard at a dam in northern Quebec. Had to go over lots of gravel so they had to be bundled up nice. Big open frame electric motors and machinery for mines can be sizeable crates too, and have to be wrapped up for the same reason. It’s not very often they’re paved roads you’re hauling the stuff in over.

I used to carry a 30x30, a 24x27 w/flap, 2 24x24 and 2 16x16. AND the 40 and 50’ straps (4 ea) and this took care of everything I ever wanted to do. All the tarps were 14oz vinyl so not too heavy. Got em all at Mytee in Ohio. Sold the RGN in 16’ and got a step. Liking it better.
If you wanna see some of the stuff I used to haul, go to YouTube and type in “sbaumann14 “. I made videos.

I carry plenty of tarps. One that will cover anything 34ft long(my well space) 14 tall and 14 wide. Ive got 2 direct customers I purchased other tarps for that will fit different machines perfectly. I carry about 6-7 tarps.

Sounds like I will definitely be investing in some tarps. Funny… when I bought the connie, I thought my days of slinging tarps were over
