Don't buy a POS fleet spec truck that some company beancounters bought, detuned, and put in the hands of rookies, had the PM service done every 30-50k miles, and then lease it off to some sharecropper who doesn't know jack, and then put it in the truck paper before it winds up in Mexico.

There is a huge difference between an owner OP spec truck and a fleet truck. Owner OP spec trucks usually only see one drive before its traded off, has more HP, better transmission, better rears, better maintenance records, full gauge package, bigger radiator, oil cooler, better insulated, better all the way around. If you are going to own a ruck, make sure it was made for an owner operator.

That being said, get a truck that you like to look at....after all, it's going to carry your name.

    Lucar and landstar8891 Thank this.

Well look at it this way, would you like to make .40cpm driving a junky rust bucket or .38cpm and have well taken care of mechanically sound and safe equipment that runs great and worry free? Don't think just about the money, think about the hassles you would have with DOT... Not to mention peace of mind

When you go to a shop what tools do the mechanics have?
    How about their tool boxes?
    Are those cheap?
    Are they functional?

You got to have pride in what you do and understand that your image is the truck.

Cheap and ugly trucks were the trucks we learned on because a company or owner wouldn't give us a loaded chromed out rig for "a driver" to faq it up."

Now on days you can have your cake and eat it. Get an aero kw or pete, spec it right and throw a few lights and chrome to it.
