    Hi Everyone,

I have been a professional driver since 2010 driving both OTR and local and now that I'm a bit more experienced and can afford to be a little more picky about who I work for I was hoping someone would have some rider policy information.

Most companies seem to either allow no rider or that rider must be an immediate family member. I would like to take my girlfriend with me and wanted to know if anyone had suggestions for a company that fit the bill hiring out of Seattle or Oregon. I already know about Gordon Trucking, but need a few backups in case they don't work out (I also understand that Gordon has a window of time you must be working for them before you can take a rider and that amount of time seems to change depending on who I speak with)

    Thanks everyone

I live on the opposite side of the country, so I don't know anything about the specifics of the carriers in your area. I just think that with 4 yrs experience that you could definatly find something better than a mega-carrier like Gordon. I work for a smaller carrier based here in TN and the only restriction on riders is that they must be at least 10 yrs old and you can take a rider starting on day one. You just have to pay $45 per year for rider insurance. Good luck with whoever you choose to go with.

Your best bet would be to find few companies you would like to drive for near you and just call them...

My company only allows immediate family, but will also allow "common-law spouse" (long-term "live-in" girl friend) but that may be limited to Texas and only a few other states

Holland Enterprises has rider program starting from day 1.
The website doesn't specify "immediate family" just has "rider."
    You're in the hiring area.

Thank you, I should also mention that I have only run dry vans. Has anyone driven for Holland? Do you know if they would train to run a reefer?

You will get reefer training during orientation; nothing to it.

Thank you Chinatown and everyone else as well. I'll give Holland a call on Monday, they look like a great option. If anyone else has any other suggestions however I definitely wouldn't mind bumping Gordon down on the list.
