One of my two favorites pays in 14 days. They're just... all around good people to work for. I wish they had more work.
Well, yes and no. There's plenty of businesses where they extend credit to a customer on terms. This is usually done for larger customers who buy a lot and are just generally massive. I know for instance, one of my customers occasionally works with Kiewit. Their terms for payment to my customer are like 90 days.
To your point about if "all of X got together to demand Y..." Well - maybe? But brokerage side is just as fractious as carrier side. The moment any group stops working to push that demand, there'll be five other companies for each on the fence out slicing throats to take that piece of business. It's a self-licking ice cream cone. It sounds neat until you think about it for more than half a second.
Ridiculous TQL offer on a load going 548 miles.

My point is most of these customers know exactly what carriers are taking these loads for so its almost impossible to get better rates from my end. So when carriers expect me to pay 1500 on that lane trux cargo tracking, they can thank those guys taking it for 900 for why i cant pay them what they think is fair.

Used to be able to have charge accounts at your main shop and your hometown fuel stop and your local tire shop until guys started to forget to pay their bills. Up until 2016 I could charge repairs at the shop I used and they billed monthly.

So charge a minimum of three dollars a mile? And demand payment on pick up?
At the end of the day, if you wanna own a trucking company: it’s a business, and you’re servicing other businesses for the most part.
From what all I have read from your various posts, seems to me like you’re running your operation a lot more like a pizza delivery guy?Siinman, JimmyTwoTimes, gekko1323 and 3 others Thank this. -

Learning all the ins and outs and paying attention to all the nit-pickey little details is a lot of what running a business is about. Aggravating? Absolutely. But absolutely necessary.
Ask them what their operating costs are. If they're paying their fuel bill with enough left over for a roller dog they think they're making money.kemosabi49, JolliRoger, Old_n_gray and 7 others Thank this.
