These are beautiful rebuilts. Inspiring too.
I love the classic looks of those vintage bikes.
I thought about making a single speed out of my 25 year old aluminum Gary Fisher frame but I quickly gave up. Lol. Being such a cycling layman as I am, I never realized that the bicycle mechanics can be so complex.

@Long FLD If you’re more upright, you want one of the wider options, like a B67 or B68. That’s because your weight is more concentrated on your butt and you want to spread out your weight over a wider area. If you ride a more traditional road position, where weight is distributed between saddle, bars, and pedals, the B17 is pretty much the standard. I always recommend the “cutout” version, as it has built-in give for the perineum, with minimal compromise in support.

Anytime Brooks saddles come up, I always tell people they’re not a comfortable saddle, like a cushioned seat one normally buys. One doesn’t sit on them and think “Oh! This is amazing.”. What they are is a saddle that doesn’t cause pain and discomfort, over the long haul. They’re made the way they are, for a reason. And, they’ve been around for more than 150yrs, so there must be something to them.

My buddy is on a B67 and rides this tank. Going to a Brooks and adding aerobars has allowed for him to easily do 12hr days, without discomfort. A custom Lynskey is in the works, over the winter.

And, I’ve been riding the same B17 “cutout” for 16yrs. Likewise, I run aerobars.

If y’all aren’t aware, Lael Wilcox is absolutely smashing Around-the-World records. An amazing athlete and even more amazing human.

I made a tire change. I went from Panaracer Gravel King SS to René Herse Switchback Hill Extralight. On the surface, they don’t look much different. But, the former are a gumwall and high production tire and the latter are a skinwall and bespoke tire. For years, I’ve followed Jan Heine, his accomplishments, and in-depth testing. For sure, he’s a bit unorthodox in his ways, but, he proves everything, in real world and lab environments. His custom-spec tires, manufactured by Panaracer, have proven to be exactly as he says. Without a doubt, these are the fastest, nicest riding tires I’ve ever ridden. In my hands, they’re like no other tire ever seen. They feel like tubular construction in a clincher format. Have a browse around his site. The “Tech Info” section has numerous articles, including tires, and offer an incredible amount of info worth considering.

*René Herse were formerly sold as the Compass brand.

Yesterday, my buddy and I put down some good miles. It was upper-40’s, with sunshine, when we left. By evening, it was down in the low-40’s, pitch black. I did fine with apparel choices, but, he suffered, because he’s never ridden, before 3mos ago. Now, he has a better understanding of what he needs and why. I made some on-the-fly routing changes, based on what I was seeing in his cadence. Since it was an out-and-back, I had to ensure I could get him back. He really suffered, the last 18mi. But, for a 380lb guy who is just now passing 1000 total cycling miles, in 3mos, he’s killing it.
