Hello all, I figured I'd start a thread on my experience with swift. I have completed an informative, long orientation on thursday july 28, 2011, and did a 2hr safety class on friday july 29th in Decatur, Ga. I had to wait until tuesday aug 2, 2011 to go out with my mentor. He had to do a refresher class and a 34 restart.
At the terminal, we met at 1pm and were fueled, dispatched and ready to go by 3:00. This was because of some issues with my card and the macro 10's I had to send in. Anyway we got a "rookie" load out to Texas which I believe is some 800miles to deliver on the 4th. I drove to Newnan, Ga for a trailer switch and then off to Texas we went. Don't forget to send your macro 27's trainees or you won't be paid. We ended up doing a 10hr stop just outside mobile, al.
My mentor is a very cool guy, who is an o/o, which means we can do about 68miles/hr and have no idle restrictions.
I am going to get ready for driving today. S/S/S oh ya and eat breakfast.
Thanks for stopping by,
Specsga

Good luck,i'm waiting to hear back from them, haven't drove over 3 years so I gotta do a road test first.Just waiting for them to get my MVR back.Anyhow keep us posted.

Best advice I can offer....just be sure you get plenty of backing experience.....it is the most technical yet least used thing we do!
All types, sight side, blind side, parallel, angle docks, screwy docks (there are no lines for determining "straight" and the fence or building in front is at an off angle to the dock), obstacles in your backing path you will need to "negotiate" around.
Also....see if your Mentor will teach you how to chain up the rig.....you might just need that in about 3 or 4 months!
Good Luck in your new adventure!

specsga did you use to work for schneider

No I didn't. Thanks all for tuning in and the best wishes.
So we arrived at our destination in Tx last night and have had our 10hrs. We are just waiting to be unloaded. We have three drops this load. Total miles for this run is about 860. To all trainees remember the G.O.A.L principal even if your mentor is out there spotting you.
So far I am 3hrs ahead of the required 6hr per day swift rule. We are hoping to get a decent load after this.
I will see if I can get my mentor to show me how to chain the truck, but it will have to wait until we do a restart in Ga as his chains are at home. I m doing all the driving and backing right now.
I wil update when I can.

Update, on first delivery we already got pre-plan for a load in Ohio. We need to be there by tomorrow night. Ya baby, now we trucking.

I hope to get some decent hours done on this one.

Good luck to you out there and stay safe. Keep the post coming.
