Actually I re-read the OP again and I think I misunderstood. I THOUGHT he was asking how to turn right from a two lane street onto a one lane street.
I now think he is asking about two right turn ONLY lanes turning onto a two lane street. My bad.
right hand turning when there are two right turn lanes?

Motorcylce???? You do realize that bag less technology ruined my favorite motorcycle joke?? -
If your on inside of two right lanes left lane can't turn unless you do, so you can stretch out the turn to avoid curb.. No sane person in left lane is gonna just turn into truck.😄

You always set up in the right lane and block that lane to prevent a right turn squeeze. Then you judge how much turning room you'll need depending on the size of the street you're turning into and whether someone is in the left turn lane of that street making it a tighter turn. Most drivers in the lane to your left are not stupid and will be cautious of your gigantic rig, but it's up to you to make sure they're clear before borrowing any space in that lane. When in doubt, stop, wait, turn on your flashers.......whatever it takes to prevent an accident and allow other cars to clear you. Most four-wheelers will either be very helpful or angrily speed around you.... Either way works for you.
scottied67 and plankton Thank this. -
I agree with EZX. I've heard it called a "jug handle" right turn. Whether it's right or wrong to block half the farthest right lane with the back of your wagon, 4 wheelers can be oblivious to your right turn signal, and don't know what you are doing, and I can't tell you how many times I've had 4 wheelers try and sneak by me on the right, and then they wonder how they ended up under your trailer.

Just you wait Mr. Student Man, your day of seeing the "INSANITY" out there is coming! -
Bettin the op is sorry for posting this question. Always remember, when you give truckers two choices, there will be 3 opinions. Then if there are more truckers, there will be more ways of saying those 3 opinions. Did enjoy the 5 pages dedicated to the "two possibility" question. Troubled by some of the ideas, amused by others.

IMHO the answer really is every situation is different--and there is no one right answer..the key is and always will be to position yourself in such away--that no one can pinch you on either side--so you have room to swing wide enough with your cab--that no one can come around you on your left--while clearing any obstacle(curbs poles etc)on your inside while not leaving enough room where anyone would think they can sneak around you on your curb side....
It is one of those things that will come easier and easier w/more and more time out here..YOU must control the situation in these instances--and doing so--really isn't so difficult--you just have to be vigilant..now Ive been doin LTL my whole life in every major city in the country and was trained by ol timers that had been doin this forever when I started...and although every time is different and each place unique in its own way--the one thing that was hammered into my haed at an early age--and I use every time--IS--most drivers wait to long to size up the area--and in many/most of these situations being prudent and slow always works--look at it like this--EVERYONE else is in a hurry--all the cars are racin up to the intersection and w/right turn on red laws--will try to jump asap...and what works for me in 99% of these times--is to slow way down approaching the intersection---paying VERY CLOSE attention to traffic behind me--and slowing till I am the LAST one in line--then(WHILE laying back)very slowly start to eat up BOTH lanes--while there isnt anyone behind me--then I slowly--hog both lanes where it is clear to anyone comin up behind me--they aren't gonna get around--then gently enter the intersection--blocking the right side w/my waagon and left side w/my truck...and if payin attention and going slow enuff--the rare real pita vehicle in too big a hurry tries to force themselves around my drivers side by goin real wide(cuz you're NOT gettin by on my inside)I simply slow even more and let Mr. big hurry go on by and then continue about me turn...
Now I know many of you can come up w/9million reasons--this takes too long--or isn't legal or whatever--but remember..once you are doing this for a living day in and day out--ALL THAT MATTERS is completing each trip safely--and since this has worked really well for me for over 40 years and longer for the folks that taught me....I know it'll work for you....slow and steady really does work....JReding, Ketchikan baby, Ken Worth and 2 others Thank this.
