Apparently no one can confirm the illegality of it. As far as I know it's a state by state thing.

It seems to me that right turns on red are only safe (and allowed) when the turn can be made from the far right lane into the right lane of the road being turned on to, without encroaching on any other lanes. In some places this has been extended to 'left on red' where two one way roads intersect. This cannot typically be done with a truck, as two lanes are required to clear the curb. It is my OPINION that turning right on red is illegal if it cannot be accomplished using a single lane - car or truck.

I see people making right turns on red where there are two right turn lanes. I do not believe that it is legal to make that turn on red from any right turn lane other than the one against the curb.

I had a cop yell at me for not making the turn!

RIght on red is AN OPTION! Not mandatory. Many LEOs are bullies and you should never feel you have to do something you don't want to.

Good post, Captain Obvious. This is equivelant to saying you should always stop at stop signs.

This is true. But you got to wonder how many people really understand that concept.

I know in Florida its illegal for buses, not sure on hazmat. Like most said it probably is state regs not fmcsa. I make my decision on the conditions and traffic situation.

I was under the impression from my training and word on the street that there was a actual regulation on the book about this. After looking I could not find any federal reg just some state laws. If my opinion or what I thought was an actual fact kept you up at night then please get a life. Thanks.
