The following news was reported in St. Joseph, MI, Herald-Palladium "In Brief" column today (4/15/07). They have an e-edition, but this column can not be linked.

Tires were slashed and brake lines were cut on a number of semi tractor-trailers parked at various truck stops in Southwest lower Michigan early Saturday morning.

State police said all the vehicles damaged were owned by AREA Transport, a division of ADS Logistics LLC of Homewood, IL. In one incident alone at JD's Truck Stop, seven vehicles were damaged and 114 tires were destroyed.

There was recent tension between AREA Transport and other steel hauling companies.

Kind of reminds me of about 15 years or so ago when JB Hunt decided they might like to get a taste of the midwest steel hauling business, and the steel haulers knew that they would rate cut them right out of business. In preparation, JB bought the old Bulldog Flatbed lines down in Georgia and tried hauling a few test loads across the I-80/90 corridor in the midwest. After having a few trucks and trailers mysteriously burned to the ground, JB and the boys kind of gave up on the idea of hauling steel! And I don't think there is a flatbed left in their fleet, so Bulldog died for nothing.
