There is no situation that would warrant it. And there's no situation where blasting the horn and using the brights will solve anything.

Playing games with large vehicles is idiotic. You need to learn patience and do it quickly. The tiny amount of time you may have gained by getting past that truck ahead of you is insignificant but the cost in time, money and driving record had you been cited for a lane violation isn't.

Eight months in...you've got a long way to go. One thing you'll learn as a driver is you never stop learning until the day you retire.
As far as the aggression, get it out of your system now, there's no place for it in this business. If you plan on lasting in this industry, and you want to be treated with respect, you have to show respect and professionalism.

This is the last thing I would've ever expected to read from you, but it's good advice.

    Well said.

Always take your time enjoy the seat covers, and keep cool. No trucks in left lane means just that. Bear bait lol

That would require acknowledging having made a mistake, and ignoring the bruise to one's ego.

The other driver took him out of his game. He knew that OP wouldn't be able to pass him. So, when OP starts flashing his brights and honking his horn, the driver smiled. Op gets back behind, he taps his brakes. OP was played and played well. He was taken out of his game completely. No offense meant to OP, but this is a sign of weakness. Self control makes it impossible for others to control you, piss you off, push your buttons, or put even ruin your mood.

Hence, we have a thread about road rage and vigilantes when this was in fact a very minor insignificant delay in his day.

A lot of four wheelers and some (semi's) play dangerous games on the road, unfortunately this goes on everyday.I seen a punk in a white pickup, thought the car in the fast lane wasn't going fast enough (and the car was going 70 or 72 in the fast lane. This is acceptable, not according to the punk in the pu! He runs up on their bumper, yanks over to center lane, cutting center lane driver off, accelerates, and turns around in his cab window, yanks back in fast lane, brake checks the original car he was upset with! They nosedive and almost lose control in the shoulder! I would have been tempted to follow that pu to Walmart or wherever he was going, yank him out of his vehicle and "wail on him". However, nowadays,he'd probably come out shooting and say he was defending himself.Yeah, you Must "Practice Patience".It's Not like you're delivering "an Urgent Pancreas to Childrens Mercy Hospital". If someone is "racing me" or driving erratic,I always back off.

    Good Advice all

I really didn't mean what I said that I would consider pulling a stunt like "brake checking" someone but it still intrigues me as to the Psychology of it. I know what it feels like to have it done to....Let me tell I didn't like it one bit. Did I deserve it, being in that lane,..... Yes & No. Certainly not the Extended Brake check that I got. I don't advocate it all but just a few seconds of that would have been more than enough to convey your displeasure of me travelling in that lane. The extended brake check was way too much. That's why I reacted the way I did...with my High beams and Horn.
However, if nothing was done at all would I have tried to go in that lane again in the future? Perhaps.....Only next time, I get a ticket/fine or worse a bad accident occurs. so maybe he did me a favor and the perhaps did the rest of the motoring public a favor. I know, I can't disrespect the rules of the road because I think I have a good reason to do so. I was running behind because I departed late due to my own fault and not anybody else's.

But still the Psychology of Brake Checking a big 18 wheeler, let alone another car. Odds are more likely that you will be critically injured or killed if a Truck rear ends you. Especially in the left lane next to a barrier with another tractor trailer and traffic next to you.
Thats why I was wondering if this particular guy was in the Law enforcement genre or was he a complete lunatic with deathwish. And, IF...someone in Law enforcement would NOT do somethong like I described than I would have to assume he was a complete Nut-case...

I would love to know what he would have done if I never moved over at all just for spite. Would he put himself at risk and slam on his brakes or would he continue to slow down till we were doing like 30 mph or less (a complete stop?). At that point as everyone is passing the both of us, he would appear to be the idiot causing the traffic disruption and not me. and he would be the one others would then "road rage" upon...

So I don't know...but it's been playing on mind for way too long now...Got to move on...You live and you learn. I'm just thankful that just my Pride was hurt and not my driving record..

You may have redeemed yourself with this last paragraph. You'll learn; you can't let these kinds of things ruin your day, or dwell on them for more than a few minutes. And in that few minutes, always ask yourself, "Did the choice I made contribute to the situation occurring? Is there a better choice I could have made? Did the choice I made carry unreasonable risk?"
We can't be held responsible for others actions, we are always responsible for our own.
