Revving up makes it so you don't get engine braking, and wear the clutch out faster, but not required. When you release the clutch after downshifting, the engine will rev match with the clutch.

    T_Bone Thanks this.

Honestly dude, It's good to hear a guy trying to better himself. Even in today's world of political correctness and hugs and all that other BS, trucking still requires thick skin. You come across as someone who wants to learn and any "professional" driver worth his salt should be willing to help out the newcomers to the industry.

    Dumdriver and T_Bone Thank this.

You just operate the truck like you always do, only you don't have the added worry of changing gears that's a real plus, actually i'm old school though and always if the option is there i would choose to drive a manual.

You can. As someone else said, it helps decrease wear on the clutch. But do it before releasing the clutch, not before going into gear. Keep in mind that the clutch disconnects the motor from the transmission input shaft, so rev matching with the clutch pushed in does absolutely nothing for the shift itself.

I would go to YouTube, watch some videos on how a transmission works, understanding that will help you to understand why you do things the way you do, and make it easier to figure out what is wrong when you are screwing up.

Btw, you said you were stalling, generally with vehicles with 5 or 6 gears you will need to give it a little gas and let out on the clutch a little slower. As the revs start dropping as the clutch engages, give it just a little more gas to keep them up. You don't want to be racing the engine, just a little bit above idle.

    T_Bone and RedTheTrucker Thank this.

You still don't get it. You throw words around like professional and super trucker and relate them all to shifting gears in a truck. You think if someone can float a transmission they are pros. I've given many road tests and shifting is the most forgiven item on the test. As a company they want to know if you're not going to leave parts under the truck when driving down the road. Still that does not make a truck driver. Driving a million miles or working 20 years local without an accident or incident DOES. Knowing you never stop learning and applying a positive and courteous attitude will go a long way.

LOL.........don't sweat it. Auto's are a lot of fun to drive. The parking brake needs to be pushed in with your foot on the brake for the transmission to lock into gear. I drive a 6 speed auto dump these days......I will never go back to a stick if I can help it.
