Hello-
I'm a recent graduate of NTI and am having issues with passing the road test. I'm on attempt #5 I'm not giving up and know this is what I want to do. I was only an inch over the alley dock line last time I took it and know that other states have it way tougher that Maine does. I'm looking for any and all types of guidance.
Also between swift, werner, and prime which would you choose? Any Maine truckers out there that like any of these better than others? Thanks so much!

I am with werner and I am happy with werner so far, been with them 4 months now... however, many nere on the forum are very against werner.. so u ou will get less flack here on the forums if you go somewhere other than werner.. but, werner is a good company for new drivers, they offer training and have a lot resourses and helpf for new drivers... and out on the road werner is not as hated as here on the forum...
I dont have experience with the other companies, but have met and spoke to both prime and swift drivers who seemed happy.. on the forum, most favor Prime I believe..
Good luck on passing your test and with which ever company you choose to get your start with..
As for the road test, just relax, breathe and you will get it... once you have it and get some training and experience it wont matter whether iit took you one time or ten to pass.. -
an inch over means you just crushed my fender, took off my mirror, took out a light pole. Yes it matters that you can control where you are, it does not matter forward or reverse. Better to learn up front.
brian991219 and Tonythetruckerdude Thank this. -
Sounds like Maine has it tougher than NY. Here, we pretrip the passenger side of the truck, (nothing under hood) Straight back, then parallel park, 15 mins of driving on urban streets a few minutes of expressway and that's it.
Keep at it, don't give up. you will get it. It took me a couple tries. Once you nail it will feel like a huge weight has been lifted. -
Keep at it. You'll get it. At least you can get it into the box.
You planning on going solo or team ? -
You'll get it.Alley dock was also my weakness.Took me 5 times at the DMV to finally ace it.What you need to someone to work one on one with you till you understand the concept of an alley dockAn instructor and me focused all day on the alley dock.Funally was aceing it everytime and having fun with it.I took him out for a steak dinner. Also if there are tire tracks from someone else doing the alley dock, you might wanna follow those tracks.
