NC specific, everything is PMS, properly mounted and secured. Nearly everything is either not CDL or missing, or not CDL or leaking.

CDL stands for cracked damaged loose. That'll get you a 90 or better if you can touch and name the parts

After training yourself to say not CDL or missing/leaking, you can learn more specific things easily, such as no more than 1 inch of give with the breaks released. Be repetitive and take your time.

You can miss a lot and still pass but the LAB must be perfect. Read your pre trip handout every night starting now. Try to smoke the test, not simply pass.

I pushed being able to correctly name the parts hard for myself and classmates. That isn't for the test. That is so that they can tell the shop which part is broken while I or they are sitting broken down somewhere. Being able to identify the part correctly will enable the mechanic to bring you the correct item and get you rolling quicker. If the wheels aren't turning, you ain't earning.

Closing out this thread now, but may update as the last few graduate. I am heading in to watch the 1300 graduation.

There are two who will retest on Monday and I have little doubt about them passing the course then. I just might make it up to the school to see everyone who came back following week one graduate.

To a driver, all agreed, listen, watch, learn, and work together made the difference. We had multiple top guns and my buddy had the Executive Directors Award for having zero deficiencies on all three final tests, pre trip, backing, and road. He credited the instructors and his classmates for listening to and correcting his pre trip too many times to count.

Overall, the experience gets and A from me. Yes, I got lucky with my classmates and that had a huge impact. Be a part of the team solution and not a part of the problem. If you wish to spend your time complaining or joking around, leave your fellow students who are focused on passing the course out of it.

Day 3 (18 students)

It was more classes for general knowledge, air brakes, and combination. We continued doing log books. Myself and one of the other permit holders was allowed to take the Gen Knowledge final. We both did well. We watched a couple of videos and discussed accidents, rollover prevention, and skid recovery. A fairly easy day. Etreads were done by some students in between classes and practice tests.

Day 4 (18 Students)

I believe the students in the hotel checked out. A Werner driver and his trainee came by first thing in the morning. He discussed his driving experience with Werner and we asked questions if we had them. It was a half day in the classroom today. Everyone who needed it took the Gen Knowledge final before leaving and the other two required practice permit tests.

Students who need permits are now at DMVs taking permit tests. I am home in Fayetteville. Should they fail, they still have Friday and Saturday to retest. The instructions, to all, are not to come back until you have a permit which does not have an air brake restriction. Good luck. LOL

That may sound mean, but seriously, there isn't any need to be at the school without a permit. If it takes you a week, just let them know and they will insert you into the next week. We are moving onto driving.

The expense of the permit is on the student, (60 dollars total), 40 for permit testing and 20 for the actual permit.

Weekend study requirement: Learn the gear pattern and speeds/tac, practice double clutching, clutch neutral, clutch gear. Get Pre trip in your head as best you can. One should show up on Monday able to name the majority of the parts and the possible defects. They give you a book with pictures and everything is listed. YouTube has videos. So, get familiar as best you can. I'll be studying this starting tonight.

Will update next week. So far, it's what I expected. Most classmates agree. Do the work and you'll be fine. Most wish they would have gotten their permit out of the way before coming. hint, hint

EXCELLENT POST! Quick question, did you see anyone training on automatics?
Do they have a automatic transmission trucks to be trained on?
I was burned by CDS-CDL of John Tyler Community College of Richmond, when for two whole weeks they insisted over and over again they had automatic transmission trucks at their Woodford Va location, even said they spoke to the Woodford Va to confirm. In fact, I called Woodford as well and they confirmed they had automatics.
Unfortunately, 2 days before I was to start, the lady at CDS-CDL who I had been working with for 2 weeks and had been insisting over and over to my confirmation requests that they did indeed have automatics to to train on called and said:
"My apologies, just found out Woodford VA does not have automatics".
I asked her and the VP of CDS-CDL how this could happen after all the conversations and assurances?
Their reply: "Mistakes Happen".
Thus, I do not want to be burned again.

Call www.stevenstransport.com and ask if they'll train you on an automatic. Their trucks on the road are all automatics.

I keep getting voicemail, same phone nimber (Stevens Recruiting) for both schools.
Hopefully, they will call me back and the recruiter will be honest.
