I would like to purchase some for that time I might need them. The emergency triangle kit in the truck doesn't fill me with any confidence. I like the original flares that are like candlesticks but those only last 30 min. Any recommendations?
Roadside flares?

You could take a look at eFlares.

When I was taking a first aid course about a year ago, the paramedic had a set of these with him and they looked like they would be very effective. When I priced a set of three it was not cheap and the only reason I didn't order a set. I don't recall exactly how much it was going to cost.
If you were using them all the time like a paramedic might, well worth it, but maybe not for a truck driver. But if you want to spend the money they are at the top of my list for quality from what I've seen.59EX Thanks this. -
purchasing flares, out of your own pocket. That don't last long. VS. using triangles that are provided FREE by the company.
But since you feel that unsafe. Use your truckstop points and buy them small round red flashing beacons. And 3 AAA batteries per beacon. Use the traingles during the day. Use the beacons at night. Can't get any safer then that. Or you could use your running lights at night with your traingles. . And use your points to buy other things.flood Thanks this. -
Didn't take long for a smart ### response. Lol. Its only money man, and when I'm sitting on the side of the road with ######### passing me inches off my truck I'll take all the safety devices I can. Not a big bad man like you I guess.

If you are worried about people passing you on the side of the road do you really think flares will make an 8.5 ft wide by 13.5 ft tall vehicle (possibly with lights on) any more noticeable? All triangles and flares are for is 'feel good' laws that make no difference. 4 wheelers and way too many trucks do see the disabled there, they just don't care and having flares out will not make them care.
Now that being said I'd simply go to Amazon and order a set of LED flares. They have 3 packs for $10. But also remember even if you put out flares you still have to put out triangles by law.

Those people killed recently by the truck driver not observing the move over law in the middle of the day wouldn't have benefited from flares. Buy all the safety devices you want, but it's better to not find yourself in that situation in the first place (i.e. pre-trip and preventative maintenance).
Personally, I'm satisfied with what the triangles provide. I wouldn't trust chemical flares to do any better of a job, especially considering they don't last forever. Those beacons Dye Guardian posted would be a wise investment if you want something more than triangles.Dye Guardian, ZVar and 59EX Thank this. -
EVERYBODY slows down for real flares.

I asked for advice on flares not advice if I should get them or not. Just thought it might be a good idea since I've seen other truckers use them. Jeysus.

And advice you go. But it didn't come with an attitude.
