I would like to add that I have a hard time driving at night, I appreciate that my dsr understands this and doesn't make me run at night and try to sleep during the day. My last company used this as a tactic to try to get you drive illegally.
I could wait and start the morning of the next day, but that would mean losing a good 300 to 400 miles and getting up at 2:00 in the morning. My truck is a 2 1/2 drive and I would have to be ready to roll by 7:00. (Please, I'm not looking for sympathy this is just the reality if I want the hometime option.)
I know union companies offer great pay and fewer hours, but who are these other companies that allow truck drivers to have a normal life, drive a truck and make a living? I'd like to go work for one of them. As for the bonuses, they are called a bonus for a reason. All I'm saying is that we base our family's budget on what we can count on. If I earn a bonus then that is extra money we can use for something extra. I am not going to decide on working for a company based on the extras unless everything else is equal with the competition.
Those of us who have been driving know the good and the bad, but I have seen too many newbies that are used to their factory jobs and 9 to 5 work day. Then they get into a truck and find out that this is a whole different animal. They need to know that there are some things that are out of the control of their company. Some of the strangest dock times are grocery warehouses. I know of one place that only accepts deliveries from 4:00 am to 7:00 am that can be difficult. Procter & Gamble sets the delivery appointments and then tells the trucking company the time, further they won't reschedule.
My personality is the type that would do better as an o/o than working for someone else. Hopefully I can make enough with Roehl to build enough savings to get there. Believe me, I did a lot of research before coming to this company. So far they are the most honest company I have found. My last company flat out lied about the hometime and then tried to make me believe "I had just heard what I wanted to hear."
I'm just saying that lately Roehl has had some problems with getting the 7/4 drivers home on time and it has been frustrating to the dsrs and drivers. What I appreciate is that it doesn't come out of my hometime
Roehl 7/4 7/3 or 7/7
