I will be going to Roehl's RDTC (assuming I am accepted) because Roehl is sopposed to be a good "starter" company. I want to do flatbedding. Going through the forum, I hear from people who drive (or have driven) for Roehl c/o not getting miles, and I read that Swift drivers get miles but their starting pay sucks. (Roehl =.31 cpm, Swift=.27 cpm?) Although I would like to go to Rowhl, their higher .cpm won't mean squat if I am sitting around all the time. Anyone drive Swift flatbed, and if so your opinions?
Roehl Better company, but Swift more miles?

Nothing on the flatbed division.I drove for both Swift and Roehl. There was no comparison whatsoever.Roehl is definitly the better company to drive for.Experienced or newbee.Swift had a bunch of dispatchers that thought they were God,and got their kicks by screwing over the drivers.Roehl, not a perfect company, but at least they tried to treat the drivers right.I did have a couple of minor problems with them, but things were cleared up right away by talking with my fleet mgr.Hope this helps someone trying to make up their mind who to go with.I am now retired from driving, and dont miss it a bit.Its just a job, where you have to apply yourself and realize you gotta get that load there on time and keep your logbook in proper order.

Don't worry about miles. First of all as a new driver you aren't going to be able to handle all the miles they can give you. I just heard a newbie complaining that his trainer and him ran 3500 miles last week and that he was pushing him to hard. You need to be concerned with working for these mega-companies if anything, but that's just my opinion. Also most of the time you here drivers complaining about miles is because they don't know what they are doing or have made their dispatcher mad. Especially during these next few months. This is the busiest time of the year for freight.
When it comes to truck drivers believe half of what you see and non of what you hear!
