If I were in Baltimore, maybe we could hook up at HammerJack's. I could go for a few beers.

Oh, I get it.
I was just saying I would like to be thought of as reliable, but not as the one they ask to do the (legally) impossible. -
Sounds to me like everybody's time is more important than the drivers..
-
Of course. Some people I go to act like there's is the only freight on the truck.

It's possible that I am getting soft in my old age but I actually feel bad for Chrisf1. The part that gets me is the being told to take the rig to our Richmond yd then getting popped a recovery fee...that is bull. Going out with one of our owner op trainers, I feel for him there(Lucky he wasn't mexican!) That struck me as a bad idea for the get go. Owner ops are under too much pressure to run giving them a slave is not the greatest idea. I am always reemburrsed for parking (Read the book it says they will pay if no other options, never take no for an answer) All that being said the letter was too long and probally a waste of time. File suit get your money. Some staes are nice and write over wieghts to the co. not the driver, makes stiffing them easier.

Now, I'm not a truck driver (yet), but it seems that this guy, MXH, is another one of those I've worked with before that takes whatever is handed to him and doesn't speak his mind until he hits the forums and gets upset when someone else speaks theirs. I call 'em zombies because they don't stand for anything. Don't worry though, you're in with a majority of Americans who just bend over while Corporate America does their business.
Now as far as the guy who complained about having to pay the weight fee, I would be too. Sounds like he wasn't trained on how to handle real world situations. Of course they don't want to tell you how things go bad because they might "scare" you. This guy was smart and obviously has some good writing skills (I read the whole thing). Bottom line, his posting of his truck driving experience was more informative than most anything else posted. It wasn't any of the little things that happened that made him quit, it was the collection of them. So we can pick this guy apart and tell him what he should have done differently, but at the end forum, everyone says it's just another day in trucking. Let's all just bend over together, eh!Azeron Thanks this. -
Anytime your income or lack of it depends on possibly breaking the law to feed your family or keep your home because you are payed at a piece rate and nothing is guaranteed. The chance s of not having to "bend over" is slim to none in OTR trucking.
A friend of mine not 2 weeks ago was running a DHL load from 50 miles east of LA to just south of Olympia Wa with only 19hrs of work time left.
He ran out of hours and was waiting till he had hrs to drive after midnight, and DHL and the carrier both attempted -to get him to drive illegal to deliver the load at 7pm instead of 0130 to 0200 after he got hours back at midnight to run. The carrier was informed before and during the running of the load that he did not have the hours to del on time, and was told to just run the load and get it there when he could.
Then after DHL started ######## to the carrier and threatening them with fines, all of a sudden the law and the carriers own rules where thrown to the curb and doing anything it takes to del on time is all that mattered.
The driver del the load when he had hrs to do so despite even a so called welfare check by the sheriff to his truck, initiated by DHL (the carrier claims). He then cleaned out his truck and went home to find another job.
Driving OTR by nature means your back and other parts will be sore from all the bending, or they will starve you out and screw with you till you quit . -
And i am betting if he went by the company's demands to run it illegal--he would have also had a "log violation" write up for him when he got back. They love to screw you like that.

It amazes me how people accecpt that this type of behavior from a trucking company is ok.
Thats crazy. No way would I ever "bend over" for ANYONE, much less some money hungry trucking company.
It's simple... crap companies like JB and Swift take advantage of truckers because many truckers LET them. Don't give me that,"just another day in trucking" crap either. Taking it on the backside might be YOUR idea of trucking, but not mine.
Everyone wants the industry to get better, but it never will until people like this poster start standing up for themselves instead of being abunch of wussys.Azeron Thanks this.
