Greetings; I was wondering if anyone has any information about Roehl: HOMETime PLUS 14ON/7OFF and how well it works. The idea sounds good, but wonder if the money is even close. Any input would be helpful Thanks

Well that would suck if you didn't get that many miles during your 14 and then took 7 days off! In the truck industry if you are serious about making money then you stay out and drive until you make a bunch or the freight slows down. This is how the experienced owner operators run. You never make yourself a set schedule like that because the 7 days you take off maybe the busiest time of the month and you just lost out. Trucking isn't like any other job where if you put in the time you will get paid. You can put in a whole week and be away from home and not make a dime! They don't compensate you for being in the truck and not rolling. It can be very, very frustrating when this happens, and it will!

I never heard of the 14/7 schedule. I did their 7/4,7/3 and 7/7 schedule when I was there and I can tell you, the 7/7 schedule, I didn't make jack. 7/4, 7/3 was better, they did tend to run you everyday and try to maximize your miles on those schedules, but it's hard to make ends meet.

i have had a Roehl recruiter at my school but sorry to say i do not remember what he told the students regarding this schedule. but i would also have to question the truck......that is, will you have to turn it in every 14 days...?? i do not believe they will let it sit in your "backyard" so to speak for 7 days....that truck will be costing them money for just sitting.
so you need to find this out as well. i also have to think this type of schedule will work best if say you lived near the terminal, so they can use the truck for short hauls...??? -
Treefork how mant miles did you average a week at Roehl? Are you still there?

On the 7/4 7/3 I was getting about 2800 miles or so. I am no longer there. I work local. Regarding the truck, you have to leave it at a terminal on your off time, so you have to live within a certain distance of the terminal. (like 200 miles) That was the other downside, I had to drive my car back home 2.5 hours every time I got back, and sometimes getting back was at the end of a 11 hour drive. Also doing 14/7 you would probably be slip seating between 2 different trucks as the one would be out for 14 with someone else. Probably 3 or 4 guys slip seating between 2 trucks. Though I never did have to share my truck with anyone, probably because I was a non smoker so they won't make your share your truck with a smoker.

The 14/7 is hard to set up.
You have to have 3 drivers in the area ready to do it.
This way you can slip seat 2 trucks, since 2 guys are working at all times, while one is at home.
You would have to have confidence in all the drivers.
I don't think you would make enough to make it worth it. -

I inquired about a 10 on/10 off deal they had several years ago... it would have worked well for me at the time.

Thanks for all the comments, it was a great help. Chompi I think you have it right the only way to make money is to stay out. Thanks
