Roehl forced me to take sleep apnea test(or quit). Found out I had very mild apnea. Roehl says "buy equipment here(cpap)" and they will deduct from paycheck over a peroid of time. I called United Healthcare and was told Roehl's source was a in network provider. I paid for equipment up front, not using payroll deductions. I filed a claim with UHC for reimbursement and it was denied because Roehl's provider did not have a FED tax ID or PNI(?). It seems to me Roehl's provider is using another company"s name, thus why I was told they were approved provider. I have called several people at Roehl and all they say is they are working with UHC to remedy but no timetable. I'm out of $1350 for what was not required by the DOT, but by Roehl. I seems like there is some underhanded process going on. I'm wondering, does Roehl own their sleep apnea source? Are they using sleep apnea to make money off the drivers? How can Roehl's provider even buy the sleep apnea equipment without a Fed tax ID, and resale the equipment. ID# is something all business' are required to have if you want to avoid sales taxes on inventory.
Sounds fishy to me, but withholding judgement for now.
I would suggest any other drivers not to buy their cpap through Roehl's provider if they want their insurance to reimburse.

Just curious, never seen one of those machines before. How does it really work driver?

What I'm wondering here is did Roehl send you for the sleep study? I'm in orentation now but I had my own sleep study done before coming so if my results come back good then Roehl has no say so as to me needing a machine, I guess what I'm saying and what you may be thinking is if Roehl sends you for the study then they may suggest oh you need this machine even if you don't just to make $$$ I'm not sure if that's the case but.....
tnt440 Thanks this. -
According to doctor who did my last dot physical, if your body measurements meet a certain guideline, you have to get a test run for sleep apnea before i can get my 2 year medical card.
-
That's correct my neck size measured 18, limit being 17.. I got a 6mth card and had my own sleep study done within a few days. Haven't got the results yet I'm waiting on my Dr. To call any day

Hmm, I have a 19 inch neck, never been told I need a sleep study.

Sounds like some doctors are doing their own thing since there has been no change in the medical regulations from the fmcsa. The proposed guidelines will be that an evaluation will be required for anyone with a bmi of 35 or greater or a neck size of 17 or above. If we're talking about the Quackpactor they use in Marshfield, just keep in mind these guys are now using a 21st century version of the rack claiming to heal all kinds of issues. This guy has some kind of footbath that changes colors and is supposedly pulling all the toxins out of your body through your feet. What I love is that when the medical examiners registry is complete these jokers will be able to do dot exams while many m.d.s won't be allowed without special classes.

I agree, i have had my DOT's done at two different offices that Roehl mandated, what a joke, I use to get a more complete physical from the school nurse so many years ago...I know I just dated myself.

I talked to United Health Care yesterday. They called Sleep Service Center who supplies the cpap machines. She finally talked to someone that is supposed to let me know something by Friday. Keeping my fingers crossed.
To Jakebrake, yes Roehl's DOT physical provider(Cocentra) required to have sleep study done. Roehl paid for study. Actually Concentra passed me on my DOT and gave me my Physical card, but Roehl rejected it, and sent me back to Concentra to get only a 6 month card because of neck size.
As of now, all of this sleep apnea is a requirement of Roehl, not the DOT. I am sure Roehl is requiring it to cover any liabilities.
