You'll be fine. It'll go to collections and they'll attempt to settle. I never signed a contract, but many many years ago this happened when I left Werner.

I owed like 7K+ but eventually settled for $1500 with the collections people. I hope your journey is better. It's only up from here. Be safe driver...

I am guessing they did not really explain what the relevance of the tires was exactly? Are they saying you violated policy because you pulled the trailer with the presumably bad tires? Or did you not pull the trailer and they are terminating you because you wouldn't pull it with the bad tires?

I would block their number(s) as they come across, in text messages or calls. I would also block their email addresses.

Another post on this thread from @KaoMinerva stated that he had never signed a contract...did you sign a contract there with Roehl for your CDL program training or whatever it was you feel like they are going to try to collect on?

    Blagoje Thanks this.

If in his signed contract it says they can take money out of his pay for school (I bet it does) then they can take it from his last Roehl check.
But to garnish pay from another job will take a court order. Now there are situations where they might have you sign a voluntary garnishment. Check your contract. If so this is easily revoked with a simple email.
Check the Roehl contract to protect your future earnings.

    Still undecided Thanks this.

So I had a thought about this situation. Is Roehl cutting driver numbers? If so are they starting by trying to find reasons to fire the drivers that they will he able to collect school money from? Sounds far fetched? Not really.

As far as the tires go, company policy is to thoroughly inspect every piece of equipment as part of a pre-trip and effectively what happened was I picked up a trailer and did not notice that it had issues with certain trailer tires and thus I got blamed for it because I did not report it immediately as part of the pre-trip. It was dark when I picked up the trailer and I was in a bit of a rush to get to my next appointment. I did report the issue when I stopped the next time but apparently that's not good enough for Roehl.

The thing is I have requested the contract to review with my lawyer and they've never sent it to me no matter how many times I've asked. At this point I'm thinking that they're just going to try to bully me into paying them through a collection effort. If I don't pay my credit gets screwed up and I've actually had this happen to me before about 15 years ago and it took about 10 years to get my credit back to 800+ after I refused to pay.

Everybody that I know in the company has been complaining for months about lack of loads and pay.. it would not surprise me if they're just cutting people lose knowing that they can come after them with collections to get that contract money from them. If I could do it things all over again I would have signed up with Prime in large part because their contract stipulations in terms of money owed is not so punitive.

I always saw it as something to prevent drivers from quitting early and didn't even think in terms of a company letting people go and then add insult to injury by going after them for training money.

They must be a pretty big size because I see their trucks often...knew nothing about them until now.

It hurts to read...sorry you're having to deal with this.

    Soltaker and Blagoje Thank this.
