    Hey bucks,

I've heard this bonus is split between trainers when a student's tenure reaches 6 months. Is it 6 mos. from date of hire, or 6 months from date of 1st launch? What kind of money are we talking.

I'm past 6 months of 1st launch, and haven't spoken with the 1 trainer I stayed in touch with since end of August.

I've enjoyed your and MO man's postings here, but plan on leaving Roehl near end of year. The final straw is losing the Wausau paper launch loads, and the cost of fuel commuting over to Groveton.

I must agree. I had a couple of those the past two weeks and it is very depressing. I have been getting home Saturday morning now vs friday evening.

Just the trainers get it. $150 after a student gets 55000 miles, another $250 when they reach 115000 miles. The theory is that if a student is trained well he will stick around. I keep in touch with some students but not all. It is a nice surprise when I get a check with a few these on there.

What happened to the Wausau paper loads? Is that is the paper mill by the Groveton yard? I do flats so I've only had one load out of there.

:biggrin_2557:Oh well, sorry to learn that. I won't quite reach those plateaus, due to being 7/4-7/3 and 7/7.

Wausau Paper is closing the Groveton mill at years end. Practical miles from most of the other launch loads are under the actual miles. Exacerbating those short miles is the low mph due to hills and lengthy 2 lane road hauls, and short miles are essentially built in OOR miles. The absolute worst is crossing VT loaded or m-t. Too many restricted roads, and opti or practical miles programs don't allow for them. I've found a few other routes that short you up to 25% of hub miles with no OOR, as well.

I don't know about you, but I like to get paid for the miles I drive. On dispatches that are 70 miles longer than the load assignment says ( NO OOR miles) limit you to less than 80% of your average speed, (44 vs 57) and then short you on miles which in turn add to your OOR allowance, AND put you at risk of a service failure because of a tight delivery schedule, aren't in any way shape or form appealing to drivers.

Those shortcomings along with the price of gas to get to work are dooming my Roehl career. No nice long launches out of Wausau, and it simply won't pay for me to continue. Looking soon..

i got my evo I trainer for 4 days and then switched to another guy who was going to dallas to go home. I have been in evo I for 4 days and got a dead head home. this is thursday. I need to ake $$$ when i am not driving I am not making $$$ need to go out again. I like the trianer I ended up with fro Gary to K.C. but i dont want to sit for 6 dAYS when you are not making miles you nare not making $$ i called the driver line and told my fleet manager voice mail and my DSR (on vacation) this stuff I want to run from 11-8 to whatever so I can learn. but have not heard back from them. yet. I need to run because of pay it does no goood for me to sit here for 5 days, i aint makin no $$$ sitting here and does not qualify me for evo 2 and 3. I dont want to sit here. training is not what I expected. I expected to be put with a trainer for the whole evo I for 14 days then go to evo II it seems like I am being put off because I want to run 7/3 7/4 instead of national. but I will do what I hae to to keep my bills up. I lost my wife 2 months ago. and need to make $$$$

It was my understanding that you get $60/day for each day in evo 1 and $65/day for each day in evo 2.

Sorry to hear about your troubles with the trainers. Seems you got caught in the middle of the trainer shortage and happened to get trainers on the way home. I got lucky and had both mine for the whole 10 days, but from what I hear, mine was a unique situation.

I am just sitting waiting for my Evo II trainer. Yes you do get paid daily during training but only if you are in the truck for 4 hours that day. No pay while sitting at home.

Trivial things, like no miles, sitting for hours upon hours waiting for a 300 mile dispatch that delivers two days from now, not being paid for detention after sitting for 12 hours at shipper because of the way Roehl makes you log detention, not being paid for trips you ran last week because payroll didn't "get that one " after you scanned with two other trips, not receiving those "Realistic" bonuses because you didn't get enough miles for the quarter or your idle time was too high, and finally (but by no means the end of the list,) that "friendly support team" that either never answers the phone or waits for hours to respond to a quallcom message when you have a problem.
By the way, I stuck out my year and my trainers cashed out on me in full. I doubt that I am the only one that has left this Company because of the things listed above.
It is also nice to see your honesty about training and how you care how your students fare (get my retention bonus, then they can quit).
I have moved on, and found a really good company hauling dry bulk. I love it. It is night and day different from Roehl. What was promised has been delivered. Sure, it is still trucking, but on a much more respectful perspective.
Before you bash everyone who has ever left Roehl as a quitter or job jumper, understand that we may not have had the advantage of a good dispatcher, as you may have, or perhaps we aren't as smart as you are, or maybe we were in a "troubled" terminal. Who knows? But I, and many others, tried to make it with a company that promised much and delivered little. And after one year and two months I would think that I gave it a fair shake.
By the way, if Roehl was really great they would not have a need for all of the trainers that they have. Most of us "quitters" would have stayed.
I wonder if you would be so happy with Roehl if not for the supplemental trainer pay you receive. Perhaps with that additional income I could have overlooked some of the idle time.

    Good day.

    Wow-

I'm nearing the end of my CDL training and really starting to get nervous. I've spent months and months researching companies. Now i see this negative about Roehl. Kudo's to the author. You do not come off as a negative pissy driver. Man! Any decent over the road carriers?
