These OTR companies seem to care about how many power units they have not on the state of their drivers it seems. It's almost the first thing they mention in their statements most of the time, not how many happy and loyal drivers they have with years of service due to their ubsurdly low turn over rate.
My company, (May Trucking) is actually pleased with what they claim is a 55% turn over rate. Faced with that kind of mentaility it's no wonder they just don't get it most of the time.
I had a terminal mngr once explain to me that when I was sapposed to be home and how many miles I received, was determined by the needs of the company, not any date on the calander or miliage graph. If I was not getting home when I needed or requested weeks in advance and was not kept busy, then tough, Thats the career you picked, not me. My concern is customer expectations, not the drivers.
I have only worked for 4 OTR companies now in the last 15 years and IMO they all are about what I expected out of a trucking company. Your out of sight and out of mind unless they need you to get them or a load plnr out of a jam with a customer.
Don't know what accts you were late on del ? But if the company is already on thin ice, your tardiness could loose them the acct. This might explain them semi starving you out. These crummy OTR outfits expect you to do whatever it takes to make sure they can go home when their 8 or 10 hours behind a desk are over, not have them on the phone making up some story on why the load was late.
I pu a load on the 27th at one of are yds in CA that was sapposed to del on the 26th in Denver and the next day the company sends a qualcom msg underscoring how important it was to del on time so they did not lose business.God luck with your next move, you will need it.

My mama always told that it was better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and dispel any doubt. I guess you never heard that saying; or just chose to ignore the advise... -
Late twice in three months? And thats what you admit to. I missed one appointment in almost 10 years at Roehl. That was because there was so much snow MD shut down the roads. The vast majority of drivers at Roehl get good miles. There is always a select few who are crying they do not. I wonder why that is?

how dare you slam the mighty roehl!!! dont you know they are the only good company that exists???

There must be some kind of device out there that allows trucks to travel backwards in time, as I've also been asked to deliver late loads "on time" on many a trip. -

I know the feeling. At times it does get boring at the ol' Truckers' Report. It seems the exciting periods come in phases. Sometimes I myself will post something outlandish to get the blood flowing and the neurons firing when it gets as quiet as a mouse here. Well, this and the fact I love pissing off company insiders, of course.

Funny. My dispatcher told me how much she appreciated me always taking every load - even one that I got 1 mile empty and 1 mile loaded and did not complain about it at all - even after sitting and waiting to be loaded for 1.5 hours. I never once "complained" about my miles. I asked my dispatcher what I needed to do to get more miles and if I was doing anything wrong. She told me that it had nothing to do with me. I asked if it was because I was new, and she told me no - that miles were down for everyone. Maybe she lied, I don't know and now I don't care. My FIRST check with my new company for 1 week of driving was TWICE as much as any check I ever got for Roehl.
When I called her this week to let her know how things were going (she asked me to), I asked her about that specifically and in reference to some of your comments here. She told me that I was one of the best EvoIII drivers she ever had; that I never complained about a load and even when they shorted me on pay (they were paying me at the SE Regional rate 0f .28 when I was signed up for Nat'l at .30 from day one) that I never let it affect my attitude towards them and even though they would not go back and pay me the backpay (even though it was their fault), I always had a positive attitude with her.. She was very complimentary. So, the reason I say all that is to say that I really don't give a crap what anybody else thinks about it. None of you sign my paycheck. If you are happy driving for Roehl, more power to you. But they are NOT the pristine, wholesome organization that some on here have made them out to be. That was my only reason for making the post. And in return for stating some FACTS about them, I get jumped on by some of their drivers that have drank the Koolaid.
I am making good money now and I don't have to reach over my back to scratch my butt to get a bonus from my company. They pay me $100 for every holiday from day one (Roehl paid $65 per holiday AFTER 12 months of service) and I can idle my truck all I want. I just want you students that come here researching companies know that there are companies that will give you the miles you need to make a living, and Roehl is NOT one of them. Just be warned that if you say anything bad about them, you might get flamed by people here that judge you without knowing the FACTS of the matter (what a pathetic life to go around living on assumptions - not very bright!). -
Thanks -
I agree with Keith re what he writes about Roehl. Roehl prioritizes 7/7, 7/4-7/3 and trainers.... those are the drivers who get the miles. why? because the 7/7 and 7/4-7/3 drivers are keeping the equipment moving 7days a week, 52 weeks/yr, 3000 miles per week and the trainers are bringing in students who end up driving well for lowest cost. it's all about driving cost out of the business.... so if you are a national van driver with less than one year experience, you will get the ####.... heck.... ask the national van drivers with yrs experience at Roehl and they will tell you they are just a mop-up crew for the 7/7s and 7/4-7/3s who go home and leave less than 200 mile loads with monday deliveries at the terminals/drop yards. Go to Roehl if you want to be trained well/correctly, stick with them if you can take minimal miles/#### for one year, and then become a trainer. otherwise find a new carrier who will use your good driving skills, keep you moving and help you earn a living. Congrats to Keith for not wanting to put up with the #### and good luck with your new company.
