I'm looking at getting a flatbed with a roll tarp system on it. Just wondering if anyone may have some useful info on these systems. mainly looking for info about reliability, operating, maintenance, best/worst brand. Also I think i saw one for sale one time that said it had a " run open kit " on it. Does anybody know if this is an actual option for roll tarps ?

I think the Fastrak system has that option, not positive though as I don’t use that system.

I think you are referring to a Conestoga trailer?

If so they are great and save a lot of time from throwing tarps.

They can be a limitations on the freight that can be loaded onto them which you may want to look into that before committing to purchase.

Also winter time they can have issues with ice freezing up on top of the trailer.

    Good luck.

I have a Quick Draw system on my trailer. I’m pretty happy with the system with one exception, I don’t like the way the system connects to the headboard using the winch system at the bottom front corners. I have a reduced neck trailer (low profile) and a low profile fifth wheel on my truck which means I have to be very careful when turning into steep entrances or those corner winches get into my deck plate, APU or half fenders. Quick Draw does offer an air attachment system for the front that I’m thinking about having installed on my trailer. I’ll be 100% satisfied with the system when I get that done, I was not aware of this option when I ordered my kit.

I will say that one of the benefits of this system is the rollers for the tarp ride on top of the rail instead of the side keeping the rollers well above any weather and the system rolls pretty easy. This rail is also pretty solid, it’s been banged into pretty hard several times by careless fork lift drivers and so far no dents. I have been using it for 3 years now with no issues and only have the one complaint mentioned above.
