These reefer companies that are sometimes suggested, are you sometimes required to be on the dock doing piece counts? How often is that required? Don't know anything about reefer.

I've been with climate just over 3 yrs and I've only been required to be on a dock one time when we got loaded with produce.. Broker wanted us to verify the count. But it was easy as i just went by the markings on the main label on each pallet plus the guy loading it helped me out with it as well. And yea there are some shippers that won't let ya put shipper load an count on the bills but that's because they tell you that your allowed on the dock to verify the count if you want. I just sign their bills then put
sl+c on my copy. All the reefer work I've done is pretty easy. There are some reefer gigs tho where maybe if ya have multiple stops some products require bulkhead partitions cuz the product in the front may have to be kept colder than the product st the back. We don't do that kinda hauling at climate tho. Most of our stuff is one pick up one delivery. We have 2 stop loads occasionally but not very often.

Plus your required temperature settings are always in your dispatch info messages. You always verify your temp settings with the bills and the shippers when possible. If there are any discrepancies then ya always double check with dispatch so ya make sure your running the reefer at the temp the customer wants it at. And just like your truck you always inspect your trailers and check out the reefer unit. The reefer unit is a motor so ya gotta inspect fluids , belts , moving parts , battery , connections and just all the things ya would examine to make sure it's in proper working order. If one ever has any questions our shop is always available to help.

Green drivers forgetting to pull the brake button happens a lot more then people know. In fact, until you commit that action to muscle memory you are at risk of doing it. In the aviation world, they have a mnemonic reminder memory aid called "GUMPS" click the link to understand this. I suggest developing such a reminder. Then write it high up on your windshield in a grease pen. Once you commit to muscle memory yanking that brake button you should not need it anymore.

You should be able to find a job.

I’ve been told both ways; currently run per bills unless told to change it back. CYA with lots of msgs when there’s a discrepancy.

These reefer temp settings are not something a driver should take lightly. I have had people to do QC checks with a temp probe while unloading me. Shippers are also noted for adding little tattletales in the shipments. They can also do this to ensure a shipment has not been shaken too hard. More than once I have had to go to a TK and have my refer temp history downloaded. As a driver I HIGHLY recommend you determine the proper temp settings BEFORE you leave that dock. While en route closely monitor the driver's panel to make sure the unit is not throwing codes.

I was surprised once because of a "tattletale" I had no knowledge of was in a shipment I moved. I gave another driver that load in a repower and that driver let the load get way too warm. My company "bought" that load. Because of the temp history download of that reefer I was not blamed. Just a reminder here. Modern tech is making it near impossible to do most anything and not be held accountable. These temp "tattletales" can be reused and are not that expensive.

The new “smart” reefers can be monitored and controlled remotely. I’ve also had receivers download the tattle tale and provide a print out of temps during transit, which was required to be sent in with the bills. Product temps are a huge issue, which is easy to manage as long as the reefer unit is functioning properly. It’s not something the driver would want to “forget” about.

Sorry but it seems that the OP is a drive-by.

What bothers me is he considers this a job, nothing else.

If he is an O/O, then just apply to the other 12903849394829048923 companies out there that lease O/O, it is that simple.

AND why would they terminate the contract for this?

That makes little sense unless there is a lot more to the story.
