The Caligula's Palace heist occurred in 1992, when a crew of Triads led by Wu Zi Mu and Carl Johnson launched a heist against the Mafia-owned Caligula's Palace casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Johnson, disguised as a croupier (and using the keycard of his girlfriend Millie Perkins), succeeded in entering the back room and throwing a smoke grenade through an open vent, disorienting the two guards in the entrance bay. Johnson then had the charges on the Hoover Dam be blown, shutting off the city's power; Johnson put on night-vision goggles, and he proceeded to open the bay's door with a forlkift. The triads arrived in an LVPD armored car and succeeded in blowing open the vault and stealing the cash. Johnson covered the Triads as mafiosi and security guards arrived in the corridors, and he also destroyed the backup generators in the casino to ensure that the power was kept off. The robbers managed to escape, and Johnson served as a decoy. Eventually, the lights were turned on again, and Johnson fought his way through mobsters to reach the roof. He shot down an LVPD helicopter and parachuted down onto the roof of a casino across the road, reaching a helicopter. He proceeded to escape to the Verdant Meadows airfield in the desert, meeting up with the others, who had already escaped. Each member of the heist made off with $100,000, and an angry Mafia boss Salvatore Leone later called Johnson and threatened to have him killed.
