Im about to start my class to get my cdl, and im really looking to go to schnieder, i pretty much researched and under stand after school that Schnieder will train me in Wisc. When out on the road with the trainer, are they pretty good at a request such as, im a non smoker and i wouldnt be able to sit in the truck with a smoker i would gag and have hard time breathing. With all the concerns about second hand smoke im sure they would have no problem right? Thx and evrybody be safe out on the road.

Thanks for starting the thread!
I'm in a very similar boat as you having been in sales my whole career and finally decided I have had enough. I'm looking into going to school to get my CDL and changing directions. If I do take the leap I will be starting school in August and finishing in October.
I've started researching and reading on this site and I'm already learning a lot. One of the companies I've looked into so far is SNI and I will be following your thread on a regular basis. I know you will be busy but I hope you have time to post frequently!
I wish you all the best

Day 2 over at cdl training, did straight line and alley backing monday, tues i drove the truck on city streets, i pretty much nailed the upshifting double clutch, downshifting took some getting used t but started getting hang of it, got 4 weeks of training then test out then to Wisconsin for orentation then hopefully driving tanker for Schneider.

They say they'll match you up, but in my (small) orientation class, that wasn't the case. Non smokers were put with smokers, and smokers were put with non smokers.

I'd highly suggest you visit a doctor before going to orientation, if it's feasbile to do so. If it's a legitimate health issue that doesn't otherwise disqualify you, a company that wouldn't accomodate such a request is not one you'd want to work for.
Be aware, though, that lots of drivers smoke. I smoke like a chimney, but could easily get back on the Red Man if cargo or a co-driver warranted it. -
Thanks for the responses, its not a medical health issue, i breath better with clean air is all, but if it happens i get a trainer who smokes i will deal with it as best as i can as well as stinking like smoke for as long as im out with trainer
